Question Washing my engine..

My engine is pretty dirty, and I'd like to know the safe way to wash my Z engine. I'm afraid that I'll wet something vital, and don't want to take the risk of damaging something.

i used to porter cars at a delaership, if you dont have a steam cleaner...make sure the car is RUNNING. ..spray cleaner on parts you want to clean, scrub with a brush...non abrasive....you CAN use your hose...LIGHT MIST....on motor...the engine cover protects most of everything you need to worry about. we would then use a air hose..to..dry off quickly or whatever way you can...rather have to scrub a little harder with less water then clog/stall motor ...

Make sure to cover up the alternator, battery and any other semi-open connections with a plastic bag er something. I havent cleaned the Z engine out yet, but with my previous integra, i would bag the above, spray simple green all around and spray off.

I’ll tell you my method, but not necessarily recommend that you use this method:

1. Rinse engine bay and underside of hood with a fine spray of water.
2. Prepare a spray bottle of 50 Mr. Clean/50 water.
3. Spray underside of hood and engine bay. Let sit for 10 minutes.
4. Agitate dirty areas with a assortment of paint brushes.
5. Rinse with fine water mist.
6. Dry with leaf blower.
7. Apply dressing to damp cloth, then wipe plastic engine bay parts.

Prestone Makes a product called "Steam" that is amazing.

You spray it on dry, let it foam up. Hose it all off. Spray again. let it set and hose it off. Clean as a whistle with no scrubbing.

my friend got a modena 360. He can clean the engine at the dealership for $15. I guess it's worth it, since the engine cover is made of glass
