Default Volk Wheels - discoloration?

Hey all,

I've put maybe 5k miles on my Volk SF-Challenges and the lip seems to be discoloring pretty bad. I've never use "wheel cleaners" always just NXT soap that I wash the car with. I've also waxed the wheels with NXT tech wax. The wheels when clean have a purple tint to them when the sunlight hits. Any suggestions on how I might able to fix that?

I'll post some tomorrow. It really looks bad. The polished part of the lip is purple. Not what I expected out of wheels that cost as much as they did.

One thing just occured to me, would Meguiar's High Endurance Tire Gel cause discoloration on the wheels if the tire got wet and ran onto wheels? Reason I ask is that the gel is purple.. The purple tint on the wheels is starting to really annoy me. I washed the wheels with soap and water and used Wheel Wax, but the tint remains.

wow.. how much are you using that its running onto your wheels.. a little goes a LONG way. I don't think that it should / could damage your Volks.. but I've never tried it myself. Pictures would be very helpfull

wow. thats not a good thing to hear. mine are sitting in my basement waiting for spring. we need one of the sponsors who sell the wheels to comment on this to try and solve this issue if not minimize it. im not going to be very happy if this happens to my wheels after 5k miles.

Thinking back I never put anything on the wheel that would cause this. Never used any sort of wheel cleaner other than car soap. The clearcoat appears to be fine but something discolored it.

Overall, I am quite disappointed in the wheels. For a wheel that costs so much, they sure are fragile..

How come I always find these threads after I have made the purchase of the product!

First the Axis Craxis fiasco and now this! I hope there is a good explanation on how to remedy this because I am going to be pissed if I have a purple lip.

Ya know what I'm planning on doing in the future if mine get messed up in the slightest. I am going to start with 1000 grit and wet sand them down. Follow up with 2000 grit wet sand to polish them up to a perfect finish then take them to get a clear powder coat put on them for strength and to protect them from the elements.

I'm gonna post pics of the 1000 grit, the 2000 grit, the before shots of each wheel, a shot of each wheel at 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 done and fully polished. I'll also take pics of me loading them into the car on the way to the powder coater, the guy doing the powdercoating, me shaking hands with the powder coating guy, the pepsi I'll be drinking waiting for them to get powder coated, the finished product after powder coating, what they look like a week after powder coating and the wax (P21S) I use when i polish them up.

He said you contacted today when we spoke. He has seen the pics, sent them to the distributor but apparently I am getting the "tough luck" stance.

dang man, sorry to see that. it is quite strange. my volks have a slightly different kind of lip finish. mine has always had a "rainbow" effect since day 1.

btw you should wash the inside of the rim once in a while too
