Default Need help with my stupid mistake!

So I bought this CF OEM wing from another member on here and was so excited to put it on. I washed my car on Friday afternoon and then applied the wing (Attached with 3m tape). Well i found out soon that the wing wasn't a great fit. The corners didn't curve correctly and sat up a little high. I tried to hold the wing down for a few minutes, but shortly after, sides came up again.

Exicted, frustrated, determined, I was trying to find a quick and easy fix to keep this wing down. I thought to myself "I know!, Superglue.. that'll work" Well, it didn't. And because i was completely frustrated, i took the wing off my car and now all that's left is my stupidity in the form of dried superglue on the hatch of my ppw car.

My question to all you wise Z owners is, how do I get this off without sanding it down? I tried rubbing alcohol briefly with no avail. I know there is probably no magic solvent, but can you guys possible give me some ideas? I want to cover it up with a Vertex wing or a Blitz wing, but i still want to get as much of this imperfection out in the mean time.

Cliff notes: I'm an idiot, put superglue on my car, need help getting it off.

Zack (is kicking himself for not thinking before acting)

Here's a trick. Use hair dryer to heat up those glues up and remove them right away. Let me know if this works

My guess is that you're totally F'ed. The only thing that I've seen disolve cyano base glues (super, crazy, etc.) is acetone. Unfortunately, acetone removes paint.

It's not something that you can just squirt a little on the glue and it will wipe right off. Once that stuff cures, it has to soak in acetone.

The best advice I can offer is to take it to a good body shop.

Go to a hobby shop and get some CA (super glue) solvent. Test a very small amount on yor paint somewhere where only you will ever notice it. If it doesn't eat your paint, try it on the hardened glue and hope the glue and solvent combo won't eat the paint. Maybe put some glue in hard to see spot and then try removing it. I don't think CA solvent is name brand specific.

Ryan,

Use the hair dryer method, it should work.
I tried it before. It worked really well. You should test it with super glue on something else before you do it on your car.

Superglue melting point is way lower than the paint melting point. Hair Dryer does not generate enough heat to melt the paint anyways.

Hope it work out for you
