Default People ask how i know about detailing so much...

and i tell them...EXPERIENCE.

I get PM's all the time about detailing the Z after i made the "Ultimate detailing" thread. One question recently got to me. They asked "do you really even use teh products you say that suck or you just BSing?"

Usually every time a person ask a question about a product on the forums, i'm always here to quickly argue if it is good or not. There is a point where a person would ask "how can this guy really know about all these products". Well, honestly, i try them all. this is all PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. I don't make stuff on top of my head about things i dont know about. I really have tried almost everything. I'm open to everything. Doesn't matter if it's a cheap brand or the best money can buy. If something is good, it's good.

Here is just things i have laying in my room. This is NOT even counting the professional stuff i have out in my detailing shed or really good stuff i use on client's cars. This is just brand new stuff that i like to buy and try it. Imagine all the stuff i used and threw away already. I'm doing my taxes and adding how much i have spent on detailing products so far. This year tally with reciepts total $6,000.

here is some quick pics of what i have in my room just for fun.

So next time when i'm telling you something is good or something sucks, take my advice into account.

Nice! I'm working on a shelf like that myself.

Do you drive yourself nuts trying to keep that black Z clean? I swore I'd never buy another black car, but am secretly envious of all black Z owners.

Funny you say that. My previous car was black as well. I also told myself i would never get another black car. And yes, i do go nuts. I'm a neat freak and meticulous. Some dirt on my car makes me go crazy. I had recently come to realize that i can't keep my car clean all the time. Also, i've learned that other people who aren't closer than 5ft to my car would not notice how dirty it is. Having a black car is like having a second part time job.

Cool! You must really enjoy detailing your Z.

I like to keep my car clean also, but I do not spend that much on detailing products. I do, however, use wax for the front of the car (only). Everytime I go to campus, people ask me how I can keep it so clean. If I like the person, I'll give them the real advice:
  • Refrain from driving in the rain
  • When washing the car, use two buckets. Use one for the soap and water mixture. And fill another bucket with plain water. Use it as a rinsing agent. That way, after you go to re-dip for the soap, the dirt and small debris that comes off the car do not end up in the soap bucket.
  • Avoid tailing and driving closely behind a vehicle in front of you.
  • Wax the front of the car. It prevents the bug stains from permanently sticking. It also makes the stains easier to remove.
  • Refrain from driving in the rain.

Don't worry Luis, you are still on my list. It would be a pleasure doing your car. With the water restrictions here in NC, i have turned down a lot of nice cars lately.

eh, i enjoy having my car looks nice but not sure if i enjoy detailing it.

I'm happy you have some knowledge with detailing. I agree with most on your list. Having good wax on your car should repel rain and dirt on a rainy day.

i have a really bad habit of just picking up random new detail products. I like to see what works and what doesn't. I have list of different products that i write down and do procedures depending on what cars. Not all cars have the same interior material, same clear coat, etc.

I know what you mean. I think im being watched by the water ****'s. Found a letter on my door the other day with all the rules regarding water restriction. They would have a field day if they saw my place. I drink nothing but water in my apartment, my dog drinks water well b/c hes a dog, my fish and turtle live in water and I run my dishwasher / washing machine probably more then I should b/c im lazy I don't know what I would do if it got cut one day which is the penalty for using too much according to the paper I read My Z is so dirty though, she needs help

Hmmm.. our closets have a lot in common haha.. 303 aero, natty's blue, meg scratch X.. and some more... my supplies been depleting lately. What do you use for buffer/orbital? I used to have the Megs NXT techwax couple years ago, but it just doesnt last long. Now I usually go with Poorboys EX-P topped with Natty's blue. Good stuff!
