Any outcome? As myself and a few other owners in the UK suffer from this all the time.... Unless you have summer and winter wheels... I do but cant be ar$ed to swith them over!!
I had to get my Volks refinished due to some curbing, but doing so I took a orange pad and Menzerna Power Gloss to it. It restored a ton of the lost finish and shine. I finished it off with the Final Polish and white pad just to leave the best finish possible. I am not sure how much of the anodized coating was removed, but it looked great and did not go down to the bare metal. I would recommend giving it a shot and topping it off with some FMJ or JetSeal sealants prior to spending the money at the shop. Worse case scenario is you end up taking it to the shop anyways. I would post some pics, but the wheels are still at the shop.
