Default potential brake dust solution!!!!

I have absolutely hated dealing with the brake dust on the wheels. I've waxed the wheels with mothers premium wax and gotten no benefit. BUT, i found a product at Autozone from RainX. It some RainX wheel protectant. you clean your wheels first and then spray on this clear protectant. it is suppossed to help keep the brake dust off the wheels. I cleaned my wheels tuesday night. Then i drove my car to work wednesday and then to columbus from dayton. Normally, I would have dirty wheels when i arrive in columbus. However, the wheels still look clean. If I wipe my finger on the wheels i can pick up a slight layer of brake dust but it comes off very easy and it should just rinse off with a hose. No hard scrubbing or wiping needed. Just wanted to let you know about RainX protectant. I'll post more info as i see how easy the dust rinses off tomorrow.

I am not overly impressed with this product. The aplication is simple enough, just spray it on the wheel and let dry, but I still have quite a bit of brake dust. Maybe not as much as before, but more than I would like.

Have you tried using Simple Green? It takes all the brake dust off my wheels like magic, so I don't see why it wouldn't do the same for stains.

I tried the Rain-X product after reading about it on this post.
I cleaned the car and waxed the rims first. I then sprayed the left side wheels and left the right side as is for comparision.
After two weeks, I never saw a difference. Same amount of dust on the rims. I cleaned it this weekend and the wheels with the Rain-x had some streak that stayed even after washing. I had to use wax to clean up the marks.

I'm sure I'll give it another try someday, but for now, this product is not worth using.

Just change the brake pads, Hawks or greenstuff. NO BRAKE dust, you will be amazed.

$70 at tirerack.com

I've been using Wheel Wax. As far as break dust, I think you're going to get it (unless you switch the pads). The Wheel Wax will clean anything that may be stuck to the wheel, and leaves a great coating behind. The next washing just requires car soap and a brush. Seems to last a long time, and makes my wheels look great.

I also tried the Rain-X wheel proctectant. I was not impressed. If anything, the brake dust was more difficult to remove after the application of the Rain X. There were streaks and I had to wax the wheels to get rid of the streaks. After that I gave up and bought EBC Greenstuff pads. I have virtually no brake dust now. The wheels stay perfectly clean.

Rather than fighting the brake dust, I would just swap out the pads and then have your clean wheels.

I have the Hawks, they squeak a little, kinda annoying at times.
The greenstuffs squeak also, so I guess you have to decide.

I did a poll on the two, and most favored the Hawks. GL, their both great products.

Ensure you bed the brakes.

Installed Hawk HPS pads on Tuesday. Probably drove 400 miles since then. Washed tonight (Sunday), "No Dust"! Bought Hawk HPS pads at www.raceshopper.com ( $56 + $9 S&H) $65.

Question

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO GET THE RAIN-Z WHEEL PROTECTANT ONLINE?

I did a search and found only one place that sells it... but they're out. 1 place after searching three search engines (google, yahoo, ask). + I have'nt seen it anywhere in a store near me.

Thanks

I use the ceramic pads offered at tirerack.com. No dust and it keeps the stock braking performance.

Im sure this has been suggested in the past, but using Zaino on your wheels eliminates 50-70% of the brake dust build up. It also makes the dust that does accumulate VERY easy to wash off. I used an old claybar to clean my wheels then applied a coat of Z-5 on them. I probably should have used Z-2 but thats what next time is for
