Default I keyed my own car !!

I was closing an umbrella in my garage tonight and ran the top of it on my quarter panel. About a 7" long scratch. It is kind of faint but it appears to have gone to the panel. What should I do to get his repaired? Can light scratches be buffed out?

Oh man when I first saw the pic I thought it was that black mark. I see now that it is a circle pointing out the scratch. I would try and buff it out first. Most light scratches will come out. If you run your finger nail over it and can feel it then It might be to deep and you will have to try something else

That's nothing. It should buff right out. I had a pretty decent gash that got completely buffed out. (by a professional)

Jspec350z:

Man, the depth and location of your scratch is almost identical to mine! Except, mine's silverstone.
If you buff it out with compound or something, you're actually taking paint off surrounding areas to match the scratch. I didn't really want to do that.
I live in LA so Japanese car care goods are fairly readily available. I got this bottled stuff called Kizz-clear (by Soft99). It's supposed to cover up faint scratches (like those by carwashing) by putting on a layer of clear coat. I tried it anyway, and the more I applied, the more scratches dissappeared! It became practically invisible!
But after a few weeks it became visible. So I have to reapply. So I'm looking for a better solution, cause they also have a wax version of it so maybe I'll try that next.
If you decide to use it, they have light color version and dark color version. They also have a new one called Kizz-clear Pro or something like that.

If it is not down to the base coat it should even out with a mild polishing compound, I suggest 3M Swirl Mark Remover part number 39009

It should buff off, just put a few coats of ScratchX and then some polish and it will be gone.

Funny you say use scratch-x I have a bottle of it sitting on the back window. Is there any secret to using it? Multiply coats? 1 coat just cleaned it up a little. Maybe I will try it with my orbital.
