Yes it is very safe to do this. However instead of paying $80 to have them do it, you can do it yourself at home in under an hour. I just made a thread about this topic, with step by step instructions, and before and after pics. Here is the link https://my350z.com/forum/exterior-an...storation.html

Using a orange foam or purple wool pad along with a medium to heavy polish will get you reliable results. I do my headlights about once a year and they still look crystal clear and brand new. Meguiars PlastX with an orange pad would work as well, but to me it is easier to use the same polish I am using for the rest of the car. Either Menzerna Power Gloss or
Intensive Polish should work perfectly, I use both with the PG on the first passing and IP on the second passing. Top if off with some Jet Seal or Full Molecular Jacket and you are good to go until your next detailing.

I've tried to keep up with polishing my head lights every few months so even though I have an 03 the head lights are still in great shape. Two things that worry me are that the headlight is starting to form a nasty yellow hue, and I do not want to sand my headlight for in the past I've never been able to get 100% of the micro scratches out. Any suggestions on how to get rid of the yellow/orange discoloration on my headlights without sanding? Polishing helps, but is there another method?

Sounds like you did not seal it good enough.

What polishes have you used? I would strip everything off first with some Dawn and clay barring. Then use a two step polish with a heavy polish or compound followed up with a finishing compound. The haze is buildup or maybe a bad seal that is letting moisture build up inside. I have used my method on some pretty bad headlights and they typically come out near perfect.

I've actually never used dish washing soap on my car before any detailing. I heard someone saying that it is not safe so I've just been using high concentrate of Meguiar's car wash. I've always felt it never stripped the wax off completely, but after reading all the positive feedback for Dawn and the like, I will give it a try on my next clay and wax. Is there a reason why you refer it as Dawn, instead of just dish washing soap? I mean is Dawn the safest?

Dawn just degreases and removes old wax better than most, dish or laundry soap isn't good for a regular car wash, because it can strip all the wax and leave the paint dry and unprotected. However, as a prewash before polishing and waxing its fine. You can also use a soap designed specifically for removing the wax like Citrus Wash. I have been using that for the last year and now prefer it. Does a great job of stripping, can be used with a clay bar as a lube with the soapy water, and leaves the paint glossy and slick afterwards. Using it as a regular soap is a little more tricky than regular soap since its concentrated and has to be diluted for basic washes.

I just got done using Menzerna Power Finish with a white pad on my headlights and it helped a TINY bit, but not much. There are still tons of tiny little scratches all over it. BlueBoxer I read that you used an orange pad, but what speed setting did you have your buffer on? I started out on 4, then bumped up to 5, and then back down to 4. I did each headlights 4 times. Wiped off with a clean microfiber of course.

Should I go back and use the orange pad? Or should I follow up with Menzerna Finishing Touch Glaze? I also have Jet Seal, but I wanted to get some people's opinions before I seal it up.
