Default California Car Duster

I just bought a California car duster and water blade last night.

I've got a SB '04 and have had a TERRIBLE time with dust. The car is less than 4 weeks old and I've got 2 coats of Z5 on it. There are a couple other posts complaining of Zano and dust at the top of the boards right now and the good Dr. said that he used a California car duster on his Z. Now typically I'd think "ya I need to get one of those" and then put it off for weeks and weeks until I stumble across one in a store. But the dust on my SB Z was SO BAD I went right out after work and bought a California car duster and a water blade last night. It was worth EVERY PENNY! Every single person complaining on the dust posts needs to go buy one of these things right NOW. It took me less than one minuet to dust my car and it looks like I just washed it. My dust frustration is 100% gone. If the water blade works half as well I'll be 150% satisfied with my purchases.

And the California Duster in parts stores and at WalMart is not even the best one you can get, it works good but I prefer the original one (designated with a wood handle and it has a much larger and longer mop head than the retail version) BTW, the retail version has a plastic handle to designate it.

You can get the one I prefer thru Summit Racing and the California Car Cover Company, but either are worth every penny, I own about 4 of them right now and have used them for over 10 years.....

BTW, after you use the duster detail the car with the Z-6 and you will notice next time you should have less dust pick up, the duster does remove dust but it too can transfer static charge to the paint.... as can your detailing towels. Z-6 is anti static...

Ditto, I have (2) dusters, one for my Z and the other for the Maxima.

I also have a water blade, love that 2.

Hey guys, I just recently purchased a california duster because of the recent fires here in socal. I figured it'd be a big help with all the ash falling fromt he sky and all. I've heard people rave about the california duster and swear by it but I'm having second thoughts. Could someone who uses the duster please explain to me how this duster doesn't scratch the car? I mean there are dust and particles on the car right, and the duster comes by and supposedly picks the particles up into the duster? Hypothetically, if you don't shake the duster off every time it gets dust and dirt in its threads, aren't you rubbing them on your car? And it's supposed to work better the dirtier it gets?? That, totally baffles me, how can a duster full of dust and dirt not scratch your car? Anybody care to clarify this for me?

Can't give you the details on this, but I have used a duster for the last 8 years, and not one scratch.

I shake my duster every couple of swipes to get the dust off the duster if its real dirty.

Sorry, can't give you the technical reasons why it won't scratch, it just doesn't.

Well asked. I just bought a California duster yesterday at Wal-Mart for 10 bucks. It's got a plastic handle. I haven't had a chance to use it yet. too have the same questions.

Read the directions before you use it. You need to wrap the duster in newspaper overnight.

After that, it works perfect.

If you are unsure of this, try it out on another vehicle. And if you have only one vehicle, try it on a neighbors vehicle, when their sleeping.

Another suggestion would be, to go to the california duster website, which is: http://www.calcarduster.com/

The Original California Car Duster® literally works like magic. It utilizes the proven technology of baking a special paraffin wax into 100% cotton strands to assure that dust is lifted and removed, not just pushed around. The Original California Car Duster® gives cars the appearance of looking just washed. The traditional, classic wood handle, and heavy duty mophead preferred by car show entrants and enthusiasts.

How do I clean my Duster?

Because of a special permanently baked in paraffin treatment, The Original California Dusters are made to provide years of effective service without the need for cleaning. Simply shake them out before and after each use. The "dirtier" they get the better they work.

If you find it necessary to clean your Duster because it is too dirty or if the Duster stops lifting dust, it can be washed. You may hand wash your Duster in cold water with a mild detergent such as Woolite, then air dry. Do not use hot water to wash or hot air to dry, as heat or harsh detergent may remove the special paraffin treatment.

Keep in mind, you only use the tips of the strands in actually touching the surface of the car, almost zero pressure on the paint, we are not talking about just flopping the entire head of the duster on the surface and start scrubbing, as a matter of fact I go to several car shows a year and most people I see using them ARE USING THEM INCORRENTLY doing exactly what I said not to do in scrubbing the entire weight of the duster on the surface.......

When they say the more you use it the better it gets, I think they are referring to the fact that it seasons itself after use and some of the extra oils dissapte and no longer transfer a little oil on the surface...

I buy a new one each year however, and give my old ones to my neighbor to use on her car....

yeah i had those parffin streaks when i first started to use it. Instead of over night... i left it wrapped in a newspaper for about a week... changing the newspaper every 2 days. After that.. works like a charm. As the previous post said... no harsh scrubbing.. only the very tips are needed to get the dust off. I have a SB also.. and so far its working wonders. Hardly use it now since i got a car cover

on a realated note.. i've heard Zaino attracts dust... any truth to that or just coincidence??

it seems like it doesn't at first... but you have to let it sit several hours for the excess wax to soak in.

The paper wicks away extra oils, just do and you will notice greasy spots where the mop head has been laying...

Question: Since the duster has paraffin, would Z-7 be able to get rid of the paraffin?

Its not like thick candle wax or anything, every now and then you might get a small smear on the paint from the strands but some Z-6 takes it right off in a few seconds, Z-7 would of course work but washing the entire car after using the California Duster kinda defeats the time saving effort put forth using the duster in the first place.

Thanks, Kevin. I was concern about when it's time to wash my car and add more layers of zaino, I have to make sure the paraffin can be washed away by Z-7 before putting Z5, Z6 & Z2.
