Hey lets not be to **** around here . I did my black Touring yesterday for the second time in 6 months (I bought it new in May) .I use Z1 then Z2 and then Z5 , although I realized that on their website it is written to finish with Z2 , I will do that next time but anyway, I use 79% cotton hand towels . I first wash it at a brushless car wash around the corner drive it home and use one towel with Z1 , I fold it in quaters and use everyside of it to avoid rubbing with dirt and scratch the paint. After it is done the towel is very dirty I then change towel and use another one with Z2 and 5 (the same one) ,using the same technic folding it in quaters . I leave everything sit over night to dry and it works wonder . This morning , it was snowing , not a lot but a decent amount . I did my car one panel at a time with a regular towel 79% cotton and everything was fine . I don't have a garage but my car always sleep under a tarp.I wash it every week once , unless the car is really dirty , alternating brushless car wash and a "do it yourself car place " wich is a little further away from where I live . I DO NOT wash it by hand with anything , just water pressure and dry it by driving it home . That is what I do a the car seems very happy with it .

You dry it by driving it home???

Not a good idea my friend. You will pick up dust and dirt particles on the paint as it dries. You will then be dragging that stuff around when you Zaino.

No , the water slide right away with the wax the heat accumulated by the car and the speed do the rest(I 'm lucky to keep my outside mirrors when I drive ) . The only thing is that sometime even after rinsing well with the "no spot rinse"cycle well I sparingly see few marks and that desapear with the first rain drop. But hey as I have said before , I am not too **** about that and still plan to keep my Z for the next 20 years

Good luck to you then. Even though you might not see it, I assure you, you are picking up road dust and dirt that is on your paint after it dries.

I only have 11 coats, but I feel very strongly that each coat made the car look better. Furthermore, with all of the pictures I have seen and with my own experience, I believe that a car with 45 coats will definitely look better than a car with 4-5. Here is my progression of taglines, maybe this will help:

3 coats

4 coats

5 coats

6 coats

7 coats

8 coats

9 coats

10 coats

11 coats

Strongly agree! Mine looks better with 42 than it did with 4.

I'm not saying that you have to have 55 layers like I do but it did seem to make a difference. It seemed to gradually get better up until around ten or so. It then seemed to stay the same up until I got into the upper twenties. It then seemed to get a little more dramatic. Someone mentioned that depth and shine were two different things and I totally agree. But Zaino seems to give you both (at least with Brickyard which is an amazingly diverse and dynamic color). Depending on what angle you look at the car and what lighting you use, Brickyard shows both.

You get the "dipped in Vasoline" shiney look:

And you get the deep "soft buttery smooth" shine as well:

Doc:

I'm curious, exactly what counts as a "layer" or coat of Zaino? If you put Z-5, then Z-6, then Z-2 then Z-6, is that 4 layers or 1 layer?

BTW, your car DOES look incredible!

Thanks,
Dave

Obviously a Zaino Rookie! J/K

A TRUE Zaino Jedi would NEVER count Z-6 as a "layer" If that were true I would have WELL over 300 layers!

Only Z-2 & Z-5, (and even Z-3 for you OLD SCHOOL Zaino-ites) count as official layers.

You spotted me correctly. I got a Zaino kit for Xmas even though the Z hasn't arrived yet. I figured I'd practice on the wife's Avalon. After claying and a couple of Z-5 and Z-2 layers (with Z-6 between) it looks awesome. For a 7 year old car, you would think it was repainted recently it looks so good.

Count me as a Zaino convert!

Dear Dr. Bonz,

You are crazy! Thanks to your off-the-wall Zaino posts and sigs(as well as the informative ones), I finally bought the kit. Only 3 coats (hey, I've only had it 2 days) and its AWESOME even on my CS Z!! People can't stop staring! The bird poo slides right off! I feel like a million bucks!

So yeah, thanks again for introducing me to this most amazing and spectacular product.

Damn Doc, your Z looks amazing. I can't wait to obsess over my Z's apperance rather than when it's going to arrive.

Anyone have any idea if you have to wait a certain amount of time before you wash/wax when you have a clear bra installed?

I am going to wait at least 30 days before waxing it (i don't know why, just seems like the thing to do) they told me i could wash it when i got home and i did. Looks good so far, I have noticed what appear to be white streaks across bra on hood. I hope they will go away with time. I'll keep you posted on results, if not good i will have them redo it.

As far as Zaino, i had used it on my previous vehicle a Jeep GC and liked the results but didn't like whole z-1 concept and the time it takes. But with ZFX the stuff is the shi**. I love it!!

I do have one question however if you notice some light swirls and you have already applied Z2, does applying Z5 after that remove them or do i need to strip off the Zaino (only 3 coats so far).
