Default Clay Bar question

Hey guys just a quick question, if I want to use clay bar for my hood do I have to use it for the whole car? My buddy just said that if I use it on the hood I have to do the whole car which doesn't sound right to me. Is it true?

Thanks

It's my first time using it and I just heard it from somebody it removes all the paint contamination. After my friend told me that I was shocked and just had to make sure.

Thanks

A clay bar is used to remove paint contamination, overspray, etc...

He probably just suggested you do the entire car, so your hood doesn't look brand new next to the rest of it.

It removes a good amount of contamination.

You don't have to do the whole car. You can clay bar sections at a time.

Use a quick detailer to lubricate the paint surface and apply wax to the panel you clay barred.

Check out the detailing forum here on my350z or visit Detailed Image's website to learn more.

Do the whole damn car. Then when anybody asks, including your buddy, tell them to go f*ck themselves in a little corner. Happy f*cking St. Patrick's day.

Don't be lazy, do the entire car. Buy a quality clay bar and lubricant for it from Detailed Image. Read the directions, don't be lazy, and kick yourself, err, your buddy, in the *****. Don't forget to wash it first, wax it after, and don't reuse dirty clay. If it hits the ground, throw it away.

-OP-

after you wash the car, empty your wash bucket and refill with soapy water, but this time you will want to use a good bit of soap in the water. After mixing the soap and water, you should be able to rub your index finger against your thumb and it should be well lubricated. When you achieve this consistency, you can apply some soapy water to an area of the car and use this for your lubrication. You want to keep the surface well lubricated while claying so be generous with the amount of soapy water you use. Wash the car after you are finished to get the remaining residue from the clay bar and proceed to wax. Work out of the sun on a cool surface.

This will a much cheaper than using quick detailer or any other type of lubricant and atleast twice as fast if you are doing it right.

good luck

I have found that certain soaps make certain clay bars fall apart very very quickly. (Zaino car wash does this to the milder Meguiar's clay bar, Turtle wax soap dissolves the Zaino clay bar as well) Maybe you have some tips on what soaps work better?

I still prefer the quick detailer spray approach... just buy a case of Meguiars off amazon and keep some around.
