Default Can I Wash Tonight and Detail Tomorrow?

I really want to detail my car this weekend since it is going to be 80 degrees here in Boston, but I have time constraints.

I get home at 2 today and plan on washing my car and putting it in the garage tonight before I run out of light, then doing a full detail tomorrow.

Tomorrow I only have about 3 hours (7-10 AM), which I can fully utilize claying, glazing, sealing and waxing.

As long as I don't drive the car (put it right in garage after wash) will I be alright doing this? I will be claying the car tommorow which I think will take off any dust build up overnight.

Have any of you done this? Is it a big deal?

Thanks

You should be alright, just lightly wipe the car down with a clean microfiber cloth/towel before you start. You could also use Meguiars Quick Detailer too if you have it, but it's not necessary.

I don't think I'd recommend doing a "dust off". Use a quick detailer and clay like you said. Dusting off is going to add micro scratches to your paint.

if the car is washed..immediately pulled into a garage..10 hrs in a garage isnt gonna accumulate anything IF anything... "micro scratches" the cloth or whatever he's using to wash the car, what do you think they're doing?

wash and dry the car, pull it in as soon as you wash it, close door, leave door closed, wake up in the a.m., dampen a microfiber cloth with a few sprays of detailer, quick wipe, and get to business

dont just have at it in the a.m with detailer and clay.. dust it off then clay..i got a question...would you just pull your car in a garage without washing and say well the buffer will remove the dirt, im buffing anyway?...trust me dude...i own a detail shop all highline vehicles

What is the name of your detail shop, and what are "highline" vehicles? And your last paragraph (that I italicized) makes no sense with relation to what the guy was saying about doing a quick detail in the morning. Also, the OP should wash the car and take it for a short drive to get the water out of the crevices of the panels and especially wheels.

Anyway, as you should know, the detail spray - when sprayed on the car - actually lifts any residual dust particulates off of the paint a couple of microns by electrostatic forces so that they are not dragged across the paint. The better quick detailers, like Meguiar's Ultimate, have some wax in them - that's not the one the OP should use. He should use the standard red-bottled Meguiar's Quick Detailer.

I agree that the car will likely not get all nasty by just sitting in the garage overnight (but who knows how dusty said garage is), but I would not recommend simply dampening a cloth and wiping across the car - ever. Do you stand outside the shower, then wet and use a washcloth? You're right - it does not need to be clayed again in the morning. The OP should lightly mist the car, one panel at a time, and use a microfiber towel to wipe it off. It should take less than 10 minutes to dress the car in the am before he begins the polishing steps.

Fine. I often do Saturday-Sunday detailing. Wash Saturday – wax Sunday.

When i do that i use a dust mop. Awet rag will just make a mess and act as an abrasive.

first off...i'm not dragging a business name into an argument on the internet with someone who has no idea and then proceed to bash me or my business name, on something you obviously know nothing about...for real...youre telling the guy to drive for 10 minutes to "blow water out of the crevices" and then detail...are you out of your Fn mind?..you know how much ***** he'll pick up driving it on the road..and then detail it?..how about washing it and using a compressor with a blower nozzel and blowing it out instead of driving down dusty roads...but you're gonna criticize me for telling him to leave it in the garage...what...a.. maroon..and by the way..highline vehicles arent the beaters regular detail shops get, mostly custom, or luxury., aka 70K choppers etc.
