Default Is to much wax harmful.

My son, who works at a GM Dealership, was told by one of the body guys that I should quit waxing my car so much. According to the body shop guy waxing the car every few weeks will eventually ruin the finish. The body shop guy recommended no more then 3-4 times per year.

Do his comments make sense to any of you.

unless you are using something harsh or an abrasive... i don't think waxing too much will ruin your paint. look at the Zaino freaks (no offense )... they zaino their car almost every week and it actually protects the car even better. Your son's co-workers are probably just jealous u guys have a Z

That makes no sense. You wax your car to maintain the finish on the vehicle. The more application that you used the better it protects. If that was the case you would definately see a warning on every wax on the market stating that using their product more than recomended use is harmful.

i wax my car cause i enjoy it..plus i like the shine ...do i have to polish every time i wax??...im not sure the best way to do it

and how long does it take for a coat of wax to naturally wear off..im sure there are not really 52 coats of wax protecting DR BONZ's car at one time!

Totally depends on the products you are using, if the product has no abrasives like Zaino polishes, you could use it every day and never hurt or remove any paint.

Now if you choose to use a very aggresive and powerful cleaner type was such as NuFinish, if you use that too much it will thin the clear over time.

But again, his comment means nothing unless he knows what you are using and if he is shcooled in all the different kinds of waxes and polishes available today...

Someone once told me that stuff like "L. Glass" is not good because it seals, the paint can't "breathe".

I wonder how true that is

You are correct. I do not have 52 layers of wax on my car. In fact I don't have a SINGLE layer of WAX on my car.

Zaino is a POLYMER SEALANT and trust me, it doesn't "wear off" as you say. It is the most durable product on the planet and if using it often is harmful, than I am in SERIOUS trouble.......

I think the guy was probably referring to the popular "cleaner waxes" people use. These do have mild abrasives designed to remove the old was while applying the new wax. Repeated and frequent use can and will, over time, remove layers of the clear-coat. Zaino, CG, blackfire, none of these have abrasives and can be used continuously without fear of damage.

I think even caranuba waxes would cause problems... over time I think youd get a buildup of it, and it will yellow eventually if not removed occasionally... or so I heard.

polymers dont do that tho, and they are meant to stack.

Yes, you should definitely DAWN before you apply your Zaino. For the absolutely best results, you may want to clay the car as well.

Cool

Dr. Bonz,

now that I broke down and ordered the Zaino ($84.95) kit which comes first; the Clay Bar or Dawn.

Being new to Zaino any other advice you have would be appreciated.

So far the Z has about 6 coats of wax on it; one Mequiers (terrible) and five from the Vette Guys at the dealership my son works at. Total mileage on the car = 5,500 and I live in Wisconsin.

With the Zaino I assume I am starting over.

Wash with Dawn first, then Z-18 with a spray bottle mixture of 95% water and 5% Z-7. Follow that up with a Z-7 wash and dry. Now you're ready to start the polish treatment.
