Question What is the lifespan of a California Duster?

As i was dusting down my car tonight I looked at my duster and thought, "damn, when are you supposed to replace this thing?" I know the directions say that it gets better as it gets older, but at what point is it too dirty??

My duster is over 4 years old and I have been using it on three cars (including my 350Z). It is black as hell, but works great. It has never scratched. Make sure that you use the better model with the wood handle.

I thought that the instructions say *not* to wash them as it would lessen its effectiveness.

My California Car duster is 7 years old, very black, and has never been washed. A couple of months ago I thought that maybe it was time to get a new one. I bought a new one, but the new one does not work nearly as well as my 7 year old duster. I figure they are not lying when the say 'the dirtier it gets, the better it works'.

Thanks for the replies. I have a nice one with a wooden handle and it works great. I give it a good shake up before each wipe down. Makes a car wash last twice as long!

i think it said.... "If you feel the need to wash your CA Duster..." never said anything about losing quality

Just been having some trouble with the paraffin wax streaking on my car... I tried leaving it in newspaper for a week... still get the streak marks.

washed my CA duster today in a small bucket and noticed a lot of sand like particles in the duster. I rinsed it several more times and they just kept coming out. its a very grainy substance... i don't know how it got there. but after a couple more rinsing with a strong hose... my duster was finally clean.. just FYI

I've never had the streak marks. Is yours a real Cal. Duster or a knock off?
