it's an alternative to wax. supposedly very scratch resistant, I find it easy to apply and it makes my car easy to wash.

Is it ok to use the California Blade after you rinse off in the final step or will that remove the crystalguard?

thanks!

I'm not sure what a California blade is..but I don't see why it would if it's just a drying device or something similar...can you ellaborate on it?

http://www.calcarduster.com/heavyDutyWaterBlade.asp

there is the link to what the California Blade is. Basically it's a silicone blade that's a foot long that you use kind of like a squeegie (spelling?) to wipe big amounts of water off. I was just wondering if that would wipe off the crystalguard.

I would not recommend using something like the Blade for wiping CrystalGuard. The instructions on the website are pretty clear that for best results you should only use micro-fiber cloth.

Actually, I think I told you differently, Gene... I actually wouldn't recommend the blade now that I think about it. It will not remove the CG, but it can scratch the finish...a basic terry cloth can scratch the finish. I agree with Razorkat, use a fine cloth like a micro fiber...

Question

OK, I'm ready to purchase CG but I have some questions. I've pretty much read this thread and has a very good understanding of the product.

Before I use CG I do need to remove the swirls that I have. Would it be alright if I use Z5 for this? If not what other product would be recomended. If I did this, will this be a problem using CG after it?

I will probably purchase the CG Pro + Maint Kit, is this pretty much what I need to buy to get started? Lastly, how many applications will the pro and maint kit last? Thanks.

I'm not sure what Z5 is, but make sure you remove the swirl marks and not hide them. Use a good compound and buff out those marks prior to using CG. We use 3m compounds in our shop.

The Pro kit will give you enough for either two coats or two vehicles. Use either a sponge or air brush to apply. The Maintenance kit should last you about a year, though you might need to purchase more wash. The Quick bottle should be used about every 2-3 months (if you're fanatical about your car, you can use it more often for a higher gloss). If you use the entire system the car will look its best. Avoid car washes. Always wash by hand...

Sorry, Zaino Z5 swirl remover is what I'm refering to.

1 - I was planning on washing car with Dawn
2 - clay bar
3 - wash car again
4 - Z5
5 - CG

I typically wash my car at least twice a week and use a detail spray each time.

Sounds like you got a good procedure. The Primer in the Pro Kit is very strong and can will remove all polishes and contaminants on the paint (I'll still use the clay bar, though). I'm not sure how it will react to the Z5. Some products that say they are swirl removers are a basic polish, so be careful. The primer will strip this off.

I'm not a zaino expert by far, but isn't the Z5 a polish?
I think it fills-in any swirls you might have, which is why they want you to apply multiple layers. CG shouldn't be applied on top of Z5 if that is the case.... CG should go onto the paint after all other compounds/waxes/polishes have been stripped.

feel free to correct me if i'm off base here.

Yeah I think you're right. If this is the case is 3M scratch remover the best one out there? Can I put the CG over the 3M or any scratch remover?

I don't think you put anything "over" the 3M scratch remover. It's a rubbing compound; once you're finished it should wash away. Of course, it's very important to put some protectant (Crystal Guard, Zaino, wax) over it after doing something like that.

So the 3M RUBBING COMPOUND should beused on the entire vehicle to remove all of the minor scratches THEN re-washed to remove the excess? COOL.

Alright, thank guys for all of your responses. I will be ordering Crystal Guard by this week and give it a try. (Fingers crossed) I just hope that it works just like everyone is saying. I'll give you guys my review on the product. (Fingers crossed) Thanks again.

I would suggest going to their site and watching their little video clips on how to apply it. It makes it a lot easier to figure out if you watch someone else do it.

Yeah, I've watched that video a couple of times already. It's always nice to hear other people OWN way of doing things though and see what is the best.

seems like everyone is using only the Quick kit... I wonder does the Pro kit and EX kit worth the cost of the labor plus the kit cost?
If i have the pro kit done i would cost me around $350 ?
seems kinda expensive...to me ...
are there any professional detailer in boston area provide CG service??

Hi there,

You are correct...our detailer was called away to Japan. A family member is very ill.

He is planning on returning on Wednesday, October 8, barring any problem that might require him to stay longer.

I would suggest stopping by the shop anyway, as there are always folks around to explain the process, and to do estimates.

You can also book a tentative appointment with Chris the Office Manager to be sure that you are the first one in when Toshi returns.

Tell her that Kat told you to call....650-988-1004.
