Question Clay new paint job?

I just have my Right render resurfaced and repainted. The body shop told me to hold off waxing for 30-60days. But, how about using a clay bar? any suggestions?

if it is BRAND new paint; I dont see it being nescessary; on a new car they talk about the plastic wrap, rail dirt, and so on. but you dont have any of that.

If your car has been in a body shop, there is a 90% chance that it will have overspray on some part of the car, the repaired panel, the other non repaired panels, glass, or wheels. Inspect all of these panels with your hand for over spray and you can use the clay bar to remove the over spray. The last thing you want to do is to wax or polish on top of over spray.

Sorry to ressurrect this thread.

I just had a spoiler painted on my car (installed today). On the spoiler there are a few specks, which look like super small drips of hardened paint. Can I clay the car tomororw? I want to make sure I can take the imperfections out without any future problems.

Thanks, please let me know asap, going to go buy some Meguiar's clay tomorrow.

That sounds like dust nibs in the clear coat, it might not clay out but you can try it. I prefer the Mothers clay bar, if Meguiars is still making that gray colored clay bar stay away from it, it transfers clay to the paint badly. All retail bought clay bars are kinda rip, they only give you 2 ounces of clay for the same price as 4 ounces normally sells for.

I'm pretty sure its overspray, because its the specks are blue colored and they look like minute drips of clay on the surface of the wing.

So is it safe then to clay it? I'm taking it to the shop later today, but its still good to know--as I understand overspray is easily removed?

Yes, you can clay a new paint, clay was invented to use to remove over spray, many good paint shops are already using it to remove over spray before the owner gets the car, some however have never heard of over spray clay and send out sloppy work with over spray on adjecent panels.

BTW, if the overspray is blue paint, that is very strange as your car is clear coated, if it is blue paint it did not come from your car as your paint color would have been already shot before the final clear coat was applied....

I might be wrong--to be honest I'm not an expert but to describe it its as if they painted it and a small spot was not smoothed out before they cleared it. I hope it is indeed overspray b/c the rest of the wing looks great besides a few of those "drips" of paint. I'll take some pics. Is any clay good enough? I was going to get the Meguiar's gold class clay ( I think its like $15).

I have not seen the gold class clay, but for store bought I would go with the Mothers clay bar, the only Meguiars bar I had a long time ago was bad, it left trails of clay bar residue on the surface, that bar was gray in color, if Meguiars bar has changed it might be ok.
