Help, stains on my 3M bra
After completing a 1200 mile road trip to ALMS and the "tail of the dragon," I washed my car with the regular Zaino wash and discovered some orange bug guts that would not come off my 3M xpel- ultrashield clearbra. I called my installer and he said to try some 3M tar/sap remover. I tried this and it did nothing. I am scared to use any harsh solvents as I do not want to oxidize the clearbra. Anyone have any suggestions? It looks like the orange bug guts have actually stained the bra.
Glad to hear it. I have not installed a bra yet but in two places I have these things from a trip I had to take. I did everything I know to do. I do recall seeing these before. I had a spot on the l front post of the car. Even before I washed it again it was gone.
Wierd that they just disappear but its impossible to get them off??!

mike, how about a little better explanation? anything? I have scrubbed the crap out of these spots w/ car wash... nothing and used the 3M tar/sap remover... nothing. How are these spots supposed to fade? also this is my weekend car and is in the garage all week.(ie. not in constant direct sunlight or elements)
I got the 3M film too, and the same problem. I tried plastic cleaner, and a light bleach solution, both had no affect.
Called my installer, he said they would go away in a few weeks. He also said he had the same problem on his car, and they went away. The bug stains have been there for a week now, and they do seem lighter than last week. Hopefully they will disappear soon.

The color in the bug stains will fade with time. DO NOT USE HARSH CLEANERS. Just relax and enjoy not having any chips. You will notice that every few months you have new bug stains and the old ones are gone.
great, so I can't have no bug stains and no chips? I guess I'll settle for no chips, but it makes me feel like a fool for paying $500 bucks. On another note, I just ordered the headlight covers and should install them soon.
mcclaskz, have you used any polish on the bra yet?
My bug stains occurred 2 days after the install, before I had a chance to polish (installer said wait 72 hours before polishing, and still waiting on Zaino shipment to arrive). If you are still getting the stains even after polishing, that would suck big time.
Plus, it's getting cold here in Indiana, so bugs won't be a problem for another six months or so. I hope that polishing will prevent the bug stains in the future. Anybody know?

weather and the sun do wonders to bleach out deep bug and bird dropping stains. I know it feels odd to leave them there, but stains wont bond with the Polyurethane film the way they will with the paint when left alone.
Again, this is my weekend car so it is in the garage all the time. Yes I have tried 3M bug/tar remover, alcohol solution, fantastik, greased lighting, car wash and a whole hell of a lot of elbow grease, all to no avail. Still lots of orange little dots on my Ultrashield. On the other hand, I still managed to win 1st place today in the local Z car show. (there were only 2 350s)
Today I polished my Z for the second time, but this is the first time for the bra. Did not see any bug stains on the bra, so they went away in 2 weeks, just like they said.
Washed with Dawn, clayed, washed again. Polished with Zaino, 3 thin coats of Z2 with ZFX, finished with a coat of Z6. Car looks beautiful. Used a soft toothbrush to clean the edges of the bra, it looks great.
Wish they had painted the insides of the wheels black, that would hide the brake dust some and you'd only need to clean the outside, which has all those little dimples in each spoke that collect dust, too. Tomorrow, detail the interior.

Mine is also a garage queen so it doesn't see the sun alot unless I am driving, and I just saw a nice stain in the middle of the hood about 8 inches up from front edge. It looks like it is in the clear bra material not just the surface, it doesn't do anything when rubbing it even after I polished the car with Klasse. I wish I had known this before, for almost 900 bucks I wanted this to be the cat's meow but now we are finding out the bad, what is next???
$900 ?
The prices people are paying for the 3M Scotchcal paint film continues to boggle the mind. With the retail price of the 3M film (24" wide, 8 mil) at $12 per foot, this is a very nice industry to be in.
I installed the complete Stongard kit on my 2002 WRX about 18 months ago. I have noticed brownish blotches in the film at times, but they invariably resolve on their own. I usually use Klasse AIO on the film, and it looks great even now.

Well, I just took another road trip last weekend and the bug stains did fade. Some of them faded completely, and of course I found a couple of new ones. I guess I just have to be happy with no new chips...
