addicted to the drag racing scene so now i want more, i was gonna go for drag radials but i changed my mind and now i'm leaning more towards racing with slicks ( why not go all the way i suppose right).
MY question for you guys is would this be ok with my mainly stock set up, i've got 3 bolt-ons...intake, exhaust, and a spacer. everything else in my car is stock. You guys think my axles will be alright or are they just going to snap after like 3 runs?
How about my tranny, will the fact that my car can hook better mess up my tranny or am i just being to paranoid?

go use ET Streets, they are not full blown slicks but slick enough
if you don't drop the clutch completely and put some load on before launchin you shoudl be ok
tranny will hold no problems
I was too paranoid and bought Stage II axles prior to running slicks...
keep in mind that you need to do a good burn out otherwise they are useless.

can i find these e.t. streets in size 18's? i want to buy some rear rims to slap the slicks on for track days.I dont want to run slicks and rims that will be size 16's or 15's, so i prefer running some slicks that can wrap around an 18 inch rim
the stage two upgrade ....how much and where?

Thats as big as they get? Even the e.t.'s? Damn, ok so lets say you have some 18 inch rims laying around and you needed to use the 18's...what type of tire would YOU get to help you get your best 60ft possible
in that case you need to stick to DR's the ET DR's only go up to 17 but you can et BF Goodrich DR's in 18, they are outstanding but having a huge 18" wheel is not good for drag racing, you need lots of rubber not lot of rim
anyway, you will do ok with the 18' BFG's

Consider where you race and what classes are available. Do you want to compete against the drivers in a racing slicks only class? Or do you want to compete in a DOT tires only class?

i had mt et drags, full slicks on my Z when it was almost stock. i was sidestepping the clutch launching at 6000. it will take it for sure. then add a hundred shot a first, still sidestepping it with nitrous out of the hole with stock setup, no problems....
26x8.5x15s the are L8 compound slicks, you will pull better 60 foot time with them over ET streets anyday. if you are racing competitively make sure you arent in any street tire class...

^^YOur forgetting that your weaksauce stock clutch was softening up the launch for you. I have tons of passes both NA and FI on slicks, on a stock clutch amd JWT, the JWT releases so much harder. To the OP-as has been stated preload the drivetrain and you will be fine.
yeah man, this is correct, but he was asking if it would be ok on his mostly stock setup, so made sure he knew we have done way way more than what he has on stock clutch and drivetrain

Just bought some bfg drag radials in sizes 265/40/18. To all who have used these tires...whats the absolute best way to launch these things? What RPM etc...etc...
I race in S.D. in the 1/8th mile...maybe i'll head down to irwindale sometime

well, i love them on the street!! i drive around every day on them, they hook way better on the street than they do at the track...
i just smoke the hell outta them and launch, i havent been trying to launch hard though cause i am used to launching on slicks and there is no comparison...

If you don't want to invest in linelocks for a proper burnout I'd suggest removing the stop light fuse or build in a switch (there are some links in here on how to do that) that will allow you to do a better burnout.
I run my DR's at 16psi
bottomline is: Practise and more practise, try different things and find out what works best for you

So...16 psi isn't a little too aggresive? Have no idea, never raced with radials before, but if you guys say so.I think i'll start off by launching at 4000rpm and just work from there.
Another question i have is ...I have the 18" radials but no rims, what rims out there in this size do you guys recommend me getting? I need to find a nice simple pair of light weight rims to mount these bfg's around. Any rims come to mind? I'm leaning towards enkei

Naa...if you read the post again it was just a hypo type of question where im asking you what kind of tire YOU would get if you had 18's because i dont want to have to drive to the track with little 16's on. Been looking around and Enkei or G-games look like pretty good wheels to wrap these bfg's around on
