then why get an SRT10 when you could get an NSX for the same price?

why are we talking buying and prices? but if you really want to know its because i will never buy an American sports car, im not a muscle guy, i want my car to last along time, im a quality not quantity kind of person, i appreciate bleeding-edge technology and attention to detail, i like the idea of pursuit of perfection in whatever form that may be

i love my Z and all, but i don't get it twisted. the Z will NEVER be the car the NSX is in their street form.
Easy... whatever the NSX had for a goal is certainly wasn't performance. A 40K vette can lay the smack down on the NSX regardless of 'superior technology'.. it kind of makes all that 'superior' technology irrelevant doesn't it? If you want your car for status then by all means spend the money for the NSX and enjoy... if you were a performance oriented person it's really hard to give the NSX a second glance let a lone a first look when compared with what's available today.

lay the smack down a strip? or are you referring to the slalom and skid numbers? show me a track times of a c6 'laying the smack down' on the NSX

assuming that you have a Z and being the performance oriented person you are, why did you buy the Z?

I didn't say handling..I said performance... if their intentions were to build a performance machine they wouldn't have stuck a motor that made that little amount of power into the car. It wasn't a dumb thing to say... the NSX doesn't WOW when it comes to performance. Put an NSX next to a stock C6 and look at the performance numbers. If you guys are talking about the NSX-R or something please fill me in so everyone is on the same page.

I did not buy a Z...being the performance oriented person I am I purchased something for less than half of the 350Zs pricetag with better acceleration numbers. Since I don't live life on a skidpad as some do I think I made the best decision to make me happy. In the end that is all that matters and I don't fault anyone of you guys for loving the 350Z.. it's a sharp car with a lot of character. I can't say I wouldn't own one because it's simply not true.

performance does not = engine output
and from your posts its clear that you have never been in an NSX, and numbers don't mean jack till you put it on a strip or track
go to the link i posted above and compare the NSX to the c6 and check out the detailed comparison

The NSX-R vs a base C6?? Not very flattering for the NSX-R IMHO.

Also Performance is related to engine output... the more power you have the better the performance. I know that isn't a hard concept to understand.

Numbers don't mean jack till it's put on a strip or track?? so your saying that even it the car is slow as **** if it feels good on the track it's better? Please elaborate.

NSX-R has the same engine, revised gears and is lighter

its not very flattering that a Vette with 2 more cylinders and almost 2X the displacement yet doesn't 'put the smack down' on a puny 3.2L v6 with more than 100 less hp

i think you are confusing acceleration with performance. performance does not only relate to engine output unless you live at the drag strip, even then there are many other things that could help performance, tires, suspension, weight, gearing, aerodynamics

im not talking about how it 'feels', i mean track times, look at the Lotus Elise or Exige with their puny little engines yet they are absolute beasts on the track, then take Viper with their gobs of power yet they suck on any track not mainly consisting of straight aways

Very true... also cost a tad bit more than the regular flavor and the numbers against the C6 show it gets off the line a little quicker but starts to fall behind as it goes on. I will give it props for its lap times as they do show where the NSX-R (and NSX) excels. (which I am not denying it's handling ability).

If take in the entire performance inclusively then I guess you could say the NSX is impressive for what it can get done given what it has for power... but I guess I live in an area that is primary flat and straight.. I do have a seperation of performance and handling.. I am sure some of you do not.

i still am perplexed as why you think performance only relates to engine output, do you mean engine performance? the engine is only 1 part of a car. even then rated hp/tq doesn't mean its a better performing engine, you have to look at the output of the entire power band. sticking a v8 300hp engine from a truck into an s2000 won't make it faster

Not exactly what I was saying... the engine output is only a fraction of the overall package (yes I do fully understand HP to weight ratios ) ... given the weight of the NSX I am merely stating that the NSX could have been given another 30 ~ 40hp and easily been a supercar. The quest to make as much power from small displacement as possible is commendable.. but if you can make more power with more displacement WITHOUT additional weight then I for one think it should be a no brainer. Obviously I am undestand the NSX is a great track car but no where near deserving of the praise that some people give it.

ok, i gotcha. im not saying that the NSX is the ultimate car, i posted in this thread when someone compared it to a Z and then they started comparing it to the z06, Ferrari's, and Porsche's. imho, the Vettes aren't in the same league as Ferrari's and other exotics. im sure one of the reasons the car is powered they way it is because for the longest time Japanese production cars were limited to 280ps which is about 275ish hp, i think this limit was in effect till 04 or so, which is only a few years ago

Its just that much of a difference with gearing weight and balance.
Actually in the contrary. NSX came out to go against the RX-7TT, SupraTT, 3000 GT VR4 and the 300ZX TT state side. 300ZX TT got replaced by the 350z. If we were over seas then may be we can say that the NSX went against the Skylines. But from all the car that the NSX went against, the NSX never changed. Is like Honda knew that emissions was going to kill them out of the US market, so they succeded.

Actually the only car on the market when Acura released their NSX was the 300ZX, the 3000GT came out several months after and the FD and MKIV came out over 2 years later. Even still the NSX wasnt really aimed at competing with the 300ZX(or later the FD/Supra) directly, though they were all high performance Japanese sports cars the NSX really attracted different kind of buyers.
