Wheel hop at the drag strip?
So I took my car to see what it would do in the 1/4 yesterday. I have the 18" stock rims with street tires on it. The car seemed to hook up really well at first but then just as it would gain full traction I got a fair amount of "wheel hop". I was still getting 2.08-2.1 60ft times but this wheel hop was pretty annoying. Is there any way to stop this from happening? Thanks

14.2 @ 98 was my best. Never really had a "perfect run" though and it was about 80 degrees out. I did run a 14.3 @ 99 with a horrible launch (Dropped it way too high, got way too much wheel spin and bounced off the rev limiter that 60ft time was like 2.3). All I wanted was to break 100mph!

Thanks James, that makes total sense. It did seem to be tough to control between too much spin and bogging it, your idea would at least allow me to engage the clutch exactly when I wanted to rather that at some point in the clutch travel. The hopping did seem to happen long after the initial launch and when the tires finally gained a lot of traction at the end of first gear. I just didn't have that slingshot feeling like I have had with my old RX-7.

You just have to give the tires less power and a bit more clutch slip. If you get a balanced launch between perfect RPM/clutch slip levels you won't have issues, but it aint easy to nail every time.
