In the tight twisties the car has the upper hand - its physics people... Cars can carry more g's through a turn and brake faster than any bike...

Given a decent straight away, the bike would go flying by...

Darn, didn't realize you aren't in Calif. We could have done it this Saturday. Just like last weekend, Saturday canyon racing and Sunday at the Dragstrip!

Its got a lot to do with stability. A car can transition a lot easier and a bump doesn't disturb it as much as a bike...

I don't agree with that 100%, I can change direction and flick my bike over faster than is possible in a car... The two primary reason, again physics 1. The contact patch (rubber) on a car allows much more cornering g's than is possible on a bike (max on a bike is ~1'g) 2. Braking - performance cars have way more braking force than is possible on any bike, especially when you factor in the small contact patch of rubber that you have on the front tire of a bike...

There are numerous tests that have been done, and a performance car will always win on a tight twisty track… Throw in some nice long straight aways and it gets interesting…

A bike isn't going to have the tranitional stability on and off the brakes that a car is. You agreed with me by saying its going to have a disadvantage on a tight twisty course.

I notice it from comparing riding a dirt bike to a quad. I can go faster on the quad because I don't have to worry about the front tires washing out on me, if they do the quad doesn't flip, a car can slide a bit and recover, a bike its a MUCH harder thing to do...you slide you die pretty much (front wheel/understeer at least).

Remember, it looks a lot slower on video than you are actually going. They guy on the 600 races competitively at willow springs, and practices on the one canyon road almost once a week. The guy on the 07 GSXR is very fast on his supermoto. To bad I didn't get video of the guy on the 1000 doing a wheel stand at 70mph+ while moving over and passing the 600 on the straight away. You can tell the 1000 is on the throttle by how he starts breaking the tire loose at times. And I did the same thing to a 07 R1, surprised him for sure. It is very rare that I come upon a bike rider faster than these two guys. If you want to try on your 07 GXSR let me know, I will video you so you can see. In fact, those other two guys would love to run you through the canyons too. (Or the track).
I'm not knocking on your driving, i'm just saying that what you did isn't something amazing from a 335. I kept up with bikes in my e46 328! The riders of the bikes make a bigger impact than the car itself. To ride a bike really damn good is much harder to do than to drive a car.(Unless your drifting those canyons) And for the record.. yes, I believe your car is fast, and yes I know a 335 is no slouch in turns either.... I came from a BMW family.. I know how bmw's drive, and they are very easy to get use to..

believe it or not.. bumps don't affect me.. i just get on the throttle more and the bike goes lower

actually i disagree... i can use my rear brake on my bike and its so slight.. its not as agressive as the front brake.. i can ease through a turn with my rear brake.. but in actuality... to get my bike lower i get on the throttle more.. i am usually feathering my throttle... on and off the throttle when i am cornering

Maybe I'm wrong, I've just seen a lot of bikes wash out from really rough roads and cars don't (because the car doesn't actually lean) so I would feel like 9/10 times the car is going to be easier (and thus more likely to) drive faster through a set of curves.

I haven't ridden street bikes to any extremes, in fact only once and it was a 600rr. So I can only really comment off of "seeing" stuff and not experiencing.

people wash out on bikes because they can't ride or push their bikes beyond limits they are able to handle..

i rode to NY one day with a group of people.. man i feel i tell this story every day.. anyway.. i was on a 03 600RR .. behind me were 07 GSX-R 1000, 05 GSX-R 1000, 05 636 and an 04 636.. we were all riding the Merrit Parkway in CT and they couldn't keep up with me.. even though they were all more powerful and i weigh 100 lbs more than the two guys on each kawi..

bikes loose traction just like cars do.. its your ability to correct it or ride through it that allows you to wash out or not. Just like a RWD Sports car and a FWD Sedan..

A kid in his moms camry maybe able to take more risks and take corners harder than someone in a 350z.. doesn't mean that the camry handles better.

I know bikes will kill me on the straights, except for maybe some.. A 500 Ninja tried racing me about 5 times tonight, he couldn't even get me off the line sometimes. I would always start pulling on him around 60mph. He was winding the crap out of the bike. When we came to a stop, he said "damn that car is fast!". My little four door luxury car.

Your above statements confirms one thing for us, you don't have any meaningful experience with motorcycles. The advantage cars have over motorcycles as I stated several times already is braking and corner speed... A motorcycle can and does change direction a LOT faster than a car - understand the differences.

I grew up racing dirt bikes and you can change direction on a dirt bike in a split second! heck, that's how you turn a dirt bike, slide the rear, spin up that back tire and you're making 45 degree turns - that's NOT going to happen on a quad or car for that matter...

The racing lines for a car are COMPLETELY different than a motorcycle on a race track or street for that matter, for the two very reason that I've posted over and over again for you...

OK - Cliff notes for you:

Performance cars:
1. brake harder and shorter than a motorcycle
2. carry more corner speed than a motorcycle

Motorcycles:
1. change direction faster than a car
2. will smoke you on the straights with their blinding fast acceleration

If you read my statement correctly, I admitted how bikes can smoke me in the straights. But then wanted to qualify that with the fact that maybe not all bikes can, such as the 500 Ninja. And no, its not the same as racing a big wheel in the sense that this rider actually believed he would beat me, and had every right to think he would beat me in the qtr mile. I mean, he would normally beat a 335/350z in the qtr mile, wouldn't he? So it was a legit race. Not like taking candy from a little kid or something. Its kind of like one of you beating a Mustang Gt and beating it, and then someone coming out and saying, "what, a Mustang?, why don't you race a real car, sounds like a ricer statement to me!" I really doubt most 335i owners are any more of a ricer and than a 350Z owner, do you? Oh, and by the way, if your best time was a 13.1 in your sig, then wouldn't a 500 Ninja beat you with its 12.9?

Time for you to troll back over to the BMW forums...

at first i thought you were joking.. then i thought maybe you are slightly confused.. now its scary to think that you actually think your 335 can keep up with a 2007 GSX-R 1000 with an above average rider..

let me tell you something.. the guys in my crew are some of the best riders in Connecticut.. and i would consider them WAY above average than the squids we run into daily.. yeah the guys who do 70 MPH Wheelie Stands..

if i can smoke my boys 2007 GSX-R 1000 (rider weighing 190 lbs) with 165 whp and 2005 GSX-R 1000 (rider weighing 220 lbs) with 167 whp on a 2003 600rr (Me weighing 285 lbs / down to 260 lbs now) with 101 whp ... imagine what the hell i can do with a 2007 GSX-R 1000 weighing 20lbs less..

i hate the fact that you are in CA and i am in CT.. because snow and icy and freezing right now.. i would go get my bike and run you tommorow.. just to show you how silly your thoughts are..

i am begging you to find someone on the BMW board with a 335 in NY or CT to come find out what i can do with a 2007 GSX-R 1000 in the twisties.. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE i am begging you.. i don't care how modded it is.. i don't care how much HP it has.. i don't care if it has 19's with 305's and Coilovers.. PLEASE .. PLEASE find someone..

Simple.. Look at those specs done by a motorcycle magazine with an experienced rider. On the street do you think I would have trouble pulling one? Hell throw on an OK rider and it's not pulling a 12.9 to begin with...2 tenths is splitting hairs considering the power difference/trap speeds and my dreadfull 60fts on these tires...

Tires have been replaced.... stay tuned for spring.
