Looking to pick up a set of drag wheels and MT - ET Street radials.

I've pretty much sold myself on the tires (255/55/R16).

Still trying to pick wheels. I'm either searching for a set of Z32 TT rears (not having luck on the cheap yet), or possibly one of these options:

The steelies are 37 lbs each though, and the first set I can't find weights for.

Any other alternatives (I know Veetec posted the RX7 wheels) I need to be looking at.

So far my search has been 16x8 5x4.5" lug's, 5"-5.5" back spacing, not concerned with hubcentric.

Should I be looking for a different fitment?

 

I've had to search for drag racing wheels not too long ago. I used to have the Weld Draglites, but I have sold them long long time ago. I couldn't afford to get them again, along with the Hoosier compounds, so I settled for less.

Those weigh, I think, 27 lbs each. They don't look half bad, except I have the weights at the outside of the wheels and not on the barrels.. and the fact that I have blue and red "time attack" stripes.

I think I'm asking a question I know the answer to, but because the rear rotors went from 11.5" to 12.1" in 2006, and the 11.5" rotor'd cars required minor grinding of the rear calipers, wouldn't that mean I HAVE to run 16" rears?<-important part.

I'm leaning towards used Mustang V6 wheels (16x7).

Terribly skinny wheel, so I'll look for more later, but apparently like all ford and chrysler wheels should fit (or most). Used ugly stock wheels are likely my best bet.

 

I heard/read/saw the 06+ stock rear calipers were significantly bigger, similar to the size of the Brembos. I'm almost certain that you will need 16" wheels (I was just giving you a link to my 15" wheels so you could just see).

I've looked for the Mustang wheels also, along with the FD and Z32 wheels, but they were either hard to come by, overpriced, damaged, etc. Plus, I think I got my wheels shipped for $92.

I'd go with 8" wide wheels, though (and I think that rules out the FD, Mustang, and some Z32 wheels). Also, if you do get the steelies like I did in 8" width, go with the offset that I went with for a more "flush" look (my fenders are rolled, though). The reason why people get the 5.5" backspacing for Welds is because the other BS they offer will not fit the Z. However, other companies offer a more flexible product line of various offsets/backspacing.

I might have found some 16x7.5" mustang wheels, I have a few friends to call as well (ranger's etc.).

After discovering almost every ford wheel ever made fits I think I'll be ok on price.

That said, thank you much for your help.

The brake size difference is only .6" diameter, so it should at worst case require minor grinding.

 

Personally, I don't think any of the cheap, affordable, proper sized Ford wheels look good.

So, I'm guessing you're not going for a better stock time than your current 13.239@105.67? Any mods since then, excluding the upcoming ET Streets?

 

I blew my stock flywheel and that ended that last May. I just haven't updated my sig.

I've got:
JWT clutch
JWT flywheel
06 Track Wheels
Cobb AP tuning (so far I've put it in, gotten pissed, and returned the car to stock)
And soon DR's.

Hoping to get a good launch back and get near 12's. Might be a while though as Bithlo <<<<< Gainesville, even with DR's.

Edit - and I'm likely going to end up with "edge" pony edition wheels. They are polished 16 x 7.5" 5 spokes. Don't look terrible, and I found a set for $150 with tires. I can sell a pair off and have a set for <$75. They weigh less than the cragars, and will work just as well.

I've been eyeballing a pair of Weld Draglites that are for sale on a local drag forum. They are 15x10" 4.5" BS and 5x4.5" pattern.

Think they are worth $150?

Z32 TT rears are 16x8.5, and don't work with Brembos without some grinding. I believe they are 16#.

OPP: If you're still interested in a set of those, PM me and let me know how much on the cheap is for you and I'll make some calls/emails. They seem to be everywhere whenever you're not looking.

 

For N/A application and even a lot of FI applications, you don't need slicks that are wider than 9", which is why people get the 8" wide wheels. In drag racing, you want to reduce the maximum amount of weight, which includes the rotating mass of the wheels/tires.
I'm not sure if the wheels would fit, even with fender rolling, and it's a bit wide for most Zs anyway.

 

do they make a 28" tire that fits on a 16x8" rim though?

 

Hmmm, I was hoping to run a 26x10-15 Hoosier slick with that setup.

I am at stock ride height if that matters. I'll have to do some measuring to see how they would fit.

Have you even tried searching?
That wheel sticks out more than an inch than my current set up, which is pretty close to being flush. You might be able to do it on stock height, rolled fenders, and with a bit of negative camber (which isn't stupid to do for drag racing, if you don't know).

I suggest you look for a pair of better suited wheels.

i think they are custom order though, i read somewhere that they run about 300 a wheel, but its one of the only 16x9.5 i could find

 

For a TT setup with about 550rwhp only a 9 inch tire is recommended, is that what Im reading?

 

of course, not a ****in noob . you cant run a bias ply with a normal street front tire (maybe fine for the track though which is maybe why i couldnt find a tire).

You can run bias ply tires with regular radial tires. At higher speeds and power levels, though, that's when it gets dangerous. I doubt you're there yet.. or are you?

 

I didn't know that negative camber can be a good thing for drag racing. I would've thought that you would want as close to 0 camber as possible.


Either way, I think i'm going to hold out on those draglites. That's a really good price, but I can see that I need a pair with a 5.5" BS.


Exactly what I was thinking. I've seen a lot of supras run 15" or 16" slicks on the rear, and leave their 18 or 19" rims on the front.

Some of those cars were running low 10's or better, and they never had a problem.
