Default 2nd time at the track, video !

Hey guys.

So tonight was the second time I got my Z on the drag strip (first time was last August, so it's been a year)

after SLIGHT modding (tune) since the last time at the track, improved from my time of 14.412 to 14.111 @ 99.54 . I went with a goal to break 14 seconds and 100mph , so I was kind of frustrated. Oh well, makes me want to go back even more

track temp was about 80

Slip reads :
R/T - .485
60' - 2.162 (still trying to get 2.0)
330 - 6.013
1/8 - 9.160
MPH - 79.68
1000 - 11.842
/4 - 14.111 @ 99.54

some things i found out that i wish i knew BEFOREHAND

- lower tire pressure
- not even necessary to do a burnout with street tires
- launching in general, still trying to find the sweet spot. I still seemed to spin like crazy in first with a 2.5k launch , and i seemed to bog out when i tried anything lower.
would lowering tire pressure / no "mini" burnout help that at all?

any criticism or anything else you guys can pitch in through the video and time slips would be awesome!

Try slipping clutch on the launch it will help with your wheel spin

You are going to make 13.99 seconds or better. Keep up the good work.

It seems like your car hooks up pretty well for street tires, not a ton of spin. I think you are a little aggressive with the clutch on the launch and a higher rpm with more clutch could benefit. The car bogs slightly right now. Not a bad pass all and all. I agree that you should def be able to break 13.99 soon.

im heading back to school with the Z in MA when this damn hurricane passes (closest drag strip from there is in NH ) so hopefully i'll get another go at it when I come back in november. not a chance i'll be able to wait another year.

colder weather should help as well

appreciate it!

and do you think lowering the tire pressure would make any difference? I'm pretty sure I was around 33psi in the rears

try launching at 3500 and slipping the clutch off the line, your 2-3 and 3-4 can be WAYYY faster, try WOT shift, at least 3-4 (easiest gear shift to do imo)

If your referring to New England Dragway in NH, I wouldnt be expecting to get your best times there. The conditions on Wednesday and Friday nights suck. Your best bet is to go on Saturday or Sunday during the day. I believe it is $5-$10 more to race, but totally worth it.

yes I was, and thanks for the heads up. with classes, a job, and an internship finding time to take the trip from Amherst to N.E.D is going to be a little difficult.. I think my best bet is to give raceway park (englishtown, NJ) a go in November when I can get a week off.

I'd launch at a slightly higher RPM, engage the clutch a little faster, but don't squeeze the throttle until the clutch is fully engaged. In the vid it looks like you squeeze the throttle at the same time you engage the clutch -- this will lead to wheelspin and clutch wear. The clutch should only slip for the 1st 10-15 feet only -- it should happen pretty quickly.

An another note, either you're engaging the clutch too slowly on upshifts or it's slipping. Sounds like a 5AT with the slow engagment. Any way you can speed up the shifting will get you into the 13's.

appreciate the input djamps, pretty much sums up the most of the wheelspin on the launch, i wasn't waiting until the clutch was fully engaged to start giving it more throttle. between this and just straight up quicker shifts, hopefully ill be making 13 second passes next time

Get off the clutch faster during shifts.
