the z will burn off the tires more quickly than 240 so u have to factor in buying extra extra sets
otherwise power-over method works very well lol with 350z in my experience =P

If you stripped down the Z, you could get it to a very reasonable weight, well under 3000 lbs, imo. The problem is that it's still a new car and most don't want to trash the interior just yet.
My friend that actually drifts in competitions seems to believe that in ten years these cars will be as popular as the 240sx's are now...
edit: didn't realize they just moved this whist I was posting.

CF hood isn't going to save you much weight. Stock hoods are very light to begin with. Even the dry carbon Amuse hoods only save 10 lbs over stock, and they cost $3000.
Just get a 240 and use the remainder to tune it up.

the 350z is a great drift car stock + lsd. just drift the silly thing, and don't you dare pull out the interior and ac without learning how do drift. don't do any modding until you understand drifting. the 350z rarely feels underpowered drifting until you get into high speed stuff over 90mph or so, as stock i can drift third gear manji down the straights carrying decent speed. the z is a GREAT car to learn how to drift on.
spend your money on an extra 4 cheap wheels and 50 or so tires : ) go to all drift events possible, and enjoy the crap out of it.

You can drift with a 350z but it's quite a premium to put so much strain on a fairly new car.
Unless you are great at it, It's probably more cost effective to start off in an older 240 or some type of drift beater.
If you must have a Z, then find a used one you can strip. Base models are the lightest because they are void of TCS (traction control) and VDC, two things you don't need in drifting.
Only downside is they don't come with any type of LSD so you have to upgrade that no matter what.
The beautiful thing is, all Z's come with ample power to drift.

if you put cheap tires on the wheels and put alot of latteral pressure they will not burst or anything like that?
sorry i never done this before and I dont want to spend 500 dollars on a new set on tires every week lol...
I have stock rims running stock Re040's 245 45 18
Actually the cheapest tires for 245-45-18 I've would are 111 dollars + shipping.
I dont know where there can be cheaper tires
Mounting and balancing cost like 10 dollars per rim...
Drifting doesnt seem like a sport that can be done on budget =\
Any opinions/

drifting is a disease that can only be cured through poverty, which is ironic, because thats where it goes anyways. LOL.
anyways, if you seriously go to drift events, and really drive, you will burn off probably anywhere between 2 and 8 rears. yes it does get expensive. you can defray your cost by running 17 inch tires, they can be had new for the 90 dollar range, you can get mounting for 3 bucks at walmart, or make a friend somewhere to mount them for free. you can also run used tires that you get for free from tire shops. drifting doesn't have to be expensive, but it can be very.
its extremely fun though, and continually changes as you get better. just yesterday i was invited out to a circle track so they could see what drifting was, and i got to drift the big banked sides manjing down the straight at the top of third. it was a huge thrill drifting on a big bank, and the speeds were continually high. i've drifted for about a year, a couple events a month, and have never gotten to do a big circle track. it really got my blood pumping, and was absolutely worth killing tires over.
drifting takes over your life once you fall in love with it. its an amazing motorsport.
