Default For those without VDC and ABS...impessions?

So, I'm about to start getting to the point of no return as my car is sitting half apart in the garage right now and just wanted some opinions from those that do this. I haven't had VDC since May so not having it isn't a problem. However, I realized that I don't think I've ever driven a car WITHOUT ABS. What are your impressions of that? I don't think it would really affect me much if at all, but I know when installing a hydro ebrake, I loose it. And once I cut into my car to mount it, I'm not undoing that. lol.

So, for those that have no aids, anything you regret about it? Thanks a bunch.

Matters on what you're planning to do with it. I'm assuming you're making it a drift *****. On the track the ABS/EBS system is straight dangerous. I completely ripped out the entire ABS/EBS system a few years ago with no regrets. Only thing I would suggest is disabling/bypassing it right before a track event so that you can get used to it on the track instead of in traffic. Also I highly recommend the CNC staging brake for your hydro setup.

abs is lame, get rid of it if you plan on tracking your car. i daily'd my z for about a year with no ABS, worked fine unless your a really bad driver.

I take it that you read my previous post about deleting it. Honestly I hate having any aids when driving, traction control is really only nice in the snow and if you are sensible it isn't needed. Prior to the Z my old cars had no assists so it is like second nature to me, you just have to remember if you ever lock up your brakes then YOU have to regulate your brake pressure to regain traction if you completely lock them up. ABS + Drifting = No Bueno

The car will spend most of its time (when on the road) just kinda cruising. But, it's replacing a 240 that was a track ***** and it's just unrealistic for me to even think I won't want to send it sideways. So, track *****, no. Maybe a track fluzzie. lol. And hydro because our ebrake is USELESS. I've read that project mu pads and rotors rectify that, but I don't know. I know Ian drifts and he speaks HIGHLY of the hyrdo ebrake soooooo..

I'm not too terribly worried about it. I just know there's like a gabillion electrical whimsicle nonsense foolishness aids in that car, some that I probably don't even know it has. That's why I wanted to ask.

Thanks for the imput guys.

I believe for your car you can pull a grey plug near the brake master cylinder (gray 4 pin plug if you have VDC) and it will disable abs.

are you talking about the big grey plug coming off your ABS block near the BMC?

that will disable your abs and your brake booster so your brakes will feel like sh*t.

you need to cut the abs fuse in the box near your battery to get rid of abs w/o messing anything else up

I have the plug undone. Don't feel any difference in brakes at all.

I'll try the fuse pull first. That seems to be more reversable than cutting. lol

I doubt you will have any problem with your ABS deactivated. Remember----until the late 80's or early 90's, no one had ABS. We drove the cars and our right foot was the only ABS we had. We got along just fine without the driver aids.

The reason I unplugged my ABS completely is because I heard pulling the ABS fuse doesn't disable all of the ABS systems. For instance the throttle cut under braking. I never got to test if it does or not, so you'd have to ask somebody else about that. But yeah, that's just my two cents.

Well, this is a pretty far cry from being a full track car. It sounds like pulling the fuse maybe ok. I'm gonna pull the car out of the garage on Saturday(weather permitting) just to start it up and drive it. May even raise it up a 1/4 inch or so. I'll try it out then.

Grey plug disables ABS. VDC is a different problem.

The safety feature where you can't touch the brake and throttle at the same time is different. There is a wire by the ECU you cut and that disables it. I've tried messing with the sensors by the pedal itself and didn't have any luck getting it to work that way.

Just search Brake Boosting and they talk about it in there. I looked at this thread and went out to the car with some snipps and took care of it. Worked perfect.

They mention you need to put a switch in there so the ECU gets the signal every once and a while. I never did that and haven't noticed anything. Although, my dash looks like a Xmas tree with all the warning lights on anyway.

I'll look into all that. I need to get off my duff and start putting my car back together. I keep meaning to do it but the lack of snow is freaking me out. I was expecting to not be ABLE to drive my car this time of year and thus be ok with the laziness. But it's just rain. lol

I've been in the same situation. Spun a rod bearing in like August or something... took it mostly apart that weekend... haven't done **** since.

And on a completely unrelated subject... anyone wanna come over and hang out? Bring rod bearings and your work slacks...
