infamous 3rd gear grind
#21
Sorry to bring this topic back up again. Incase some Nissan dealership pulls the same ******** on you like they did to me, follow these steps:
1) Get them to admit why the clutch and flywheel need to be replaced. They will tell you because the new tranny will cause chatter with the old clutch and flywheel.
If they still don't budge and give you that crap about it wear items not being covered:
2) Show them the section of the warranty which states:
The following items are covered under warranty if replacement is required due to a warrantable defect...Clutch Components.
If they still don't budge:
3) Contact Nissan on their warranty complains number
If that doesn't work:
4) There is another Nissan number for people who aren't satisfied with the last step. Nissan will bring in an arbitrator to settle the issue.
Had I gone through these steps before I had the tranny replaced, I probably would have had a new clutch and flywheel courtesy of Nissan. Im out of gas now and not really interested in pursuing this any further, but I hope this ends up helping someone else.

thanks for the info bender. my tranny seems to be grinding into 3rd on my '03 g35 coupe (same tranny as the Z). i am going to try and deal with 401 dixie nissan as i know peter geer (service manager there). were there any other issues in trying to get the work done by 401 dixie? i think now is the time for me to look into getting an OEM nissan clutch shipped to me from one of the nissan dealerships in the states before I go-ahead with this job.

With the price your going to pay for OEM, you may as well upgrade.
I recently went with the Clutchmasters Stage 3 clutch kit and Flywheel.. I love it so far.

The reason for the OEM clutch is because I am trying to go for one with the smoothest engagement, and longest life. One would figure that the OEM one would fit these requirements? I am not planning on modifying the car much in terms of power, so the OEM one grabs just fine...

so what is the general consensus on the best place to get this tranny replacement done within the GTA? 401 Dixie Nissan? I have a strong feeling Ill need to get my tranny replaced, as 3rd has been grinding on engagement a lot lately, even though the clutch is fully pressed in.

St Clair nissan?...
Actually when I called Nissan Canada with regard to my oil consumption, they recommended that I take my car to agincourt nissan.. I have not had any work done there so I would not be able to provide any insight..
With regard to the clutch setup. The clutchmasters stage3 setup I have has 100000x smoother engagement when compared to OEM, and for a 10.5lb flywheel, its really very quiet..
Good luck man..
