Arrow What's in an alarm?

More importantly, what alarm are the Eastern Canada 350z faithful running? After painful research that involved many hours in front of my Dell in a nice leather chair, soft music on in the background and the finest scotch this side of the pond, I am leaning towards the Viper 5900.

Realistically, is it considered a significant improvement over stock? The unit price is reasonable and install seems pretty decent. It seems to be one of those things you would be kicking yourself for later if it was passed by and an incident took place.

So, it begs the question...what alarm are you running and why?

Edit: GTA aka Grand Theft Auto...yeah, I need a device. Not a good sign.

cut-off switches for the win, thefts can't find it and they can't see it, therefore they can't start it.

Never had the system, but played around with friend's brother has one on rx-8, another friend has one on his prelude and so does a local member of my350z.com. Very useful and informative.

i use compustar + boomerang 2 on my z. hasn't failed me yet.

a friend of mine also designed a new alarm system called "zenesis". it's a korean brand and has pretty much all the features of a compustar/viper, but with a cool OLED controller.

i have a compustar pro, it works great and has excellent range. I feel if someone truly wants the car or contents they will get it, but having the 2-way is great if someone bumps your car in a parking lot etc.

in addition to the compustar i would like to add a hidden kill switch, i did a search and could not find any definitive advice or DIY for this. does anyone know the best way to do this? or what to tap into- i was thinking run a switch cutting power to the fuel pump? any advice would be great.

^would it be necessary?
Our 350z's already come with an immobilizer, so I don't see the need to install a "kill" switch... But I guess it would provide some added piece of mind.

I recall someone made a 10 switch and wired them all together to the starter so all 10 switch had to be in a certain sequence in order to start. Now that's unnecessary.

MSRP for the Zenesis 502 is $300, and the range is 6000 ft. in an open area. this DOES NOT include installation, but they have sources for that if you are interested.
