"The statistics, to say the least, were eye opening. Far from being a scourge of the highways, street racing accounts for very few traffic deaths. From 1998-2005, there were 304,236 fatalities on U.S. roads. Of these, a mere 353 (0.12 per cent) were from street racing."
"Driving slower than the posted speed limit (429 deaths, 0.14 per cent) accounted for more deaths."
I drive about 200 miles/work day in SW Florida. The most dangerous habit I see, on a regular basis, is people who try to merge onto the interstate at too slow a speed.
They treat the yield sign at the top of the ramp like a stop sign and cause all kinds of problems, including collisions.
Slow drivers are dangerous.

I have been driving for over 30 years with at least 1M miles and have never witnessed a so called street race.
I have however witnessed what appear's to be drunk drivers to often, idiots on cell phones, chicks doing make up in the rear view, so many red lights I lost count, and many many more very dangerous acts.

Just last year I witnessed a young driver who really screwed up.
It was a nice clear morning and a group of cars (me included) were slowing down for an oncoming school bus with it's red lights flashing to pick up a young person waiting at the end of his driveway.
A car from some cars behind me decides to pass us without looking at the oncoming bus and kid waiting. He flys by us full out without even slowing down and keeps going head on towards the buss. My heart was in my mouth. He swerves through the soft shoulder and barely misses the kid standing there, proceeds on the soft shoulder on the wrong side of the road around the buss.
Lucky fo me there was a stop light just ahead of us and I got his plate.
I pulled over and called it in right away and so did another guy. I had to write a report and the guy was nailed. I stopped by the kids house on my way home and talked to the mom explaining the whole thing. She was pleased that I stopped.
That kid now waits a good distance from the side of the road for the buss.

hrmmm i think i raced that guy last night...he won though...my corolla started choking out at 170km/h.
great now that he gets left off easily...we can start a thread on acceptable reasons to give to the judge when we're safely speeding up to pass a car.
