Default Rust proofing and sound proofing

I went to a dealer for a new car and they were promoting thier underspray to prevent rust and and sound proofing. Is this worth the $1200 they are asking?

They also have an alternative to the 3M shield - it is like a wax that goes on and hardens into a shield product that will protect the paint on the whole car. These are new products at this Nissan dealership and I want to know if it is worth it.

Speak up and let me know.

Noooooooooooooooo!!! Don't do it!!

You can get that diamond gloss protectant finish coating at most big named detailers for $600.

As for the undercoating I dunno.....not worth it IMO unless you drive it year round.

This is for the GTR - I was in finalizing my spot in their allocation and paying my deposit (they are getting 6 and I am number 4 or 5....after the dealer and his buddies take thiers).

I never did these things on the 350z....but I really want a paint protection of some sort this time (as the 350 nose got pretty chipped up).

I am going to keep the Z for winter and daily driving and use the GTR for fun and weekends (not going to drive in the winter).

^NICE!

In that case, I would say go for the paint protection, but def not from the dealer.
I would locate a top notch paint shop, thats familiar with applying the protective coating.

my parents purchased paint protection for their minivan many years ago. It definately prevented chips and scratches but the coating turns dull and yellow after a few years. I found out after someone sideswiped the van and the protective coating chipped off in some areas. Protected areas looked so dull and ugly compared to the exposed paint.

Just a tip.... in any of these products you are paying for the warranty that goes with them not the product used .....

FYI. My dealer used Vital for rust, paint, and interior protection.
You may wish to contact them directly. I'm sure the dealership marked it up to the sky.

Dont rust proof a summer driven car. There will just be yellow oil everywhere and it will have no portective benefit. Not cool.
It is however cool that you are getting a GTR. Be sure to bring it out to the Z meets! I wanna see it up close!

I really wouldn't want to put that stuff ona GT-R. Nothing about the money it just makes a mess of everything. Are you going to winter drive the GT-R?

It isn't so much the cost but more is it worth it....sounds like it is not. I am thinking of skipping the Rust protector - as it is summer car for the most part, skip the interior - buy the Scotchguard can on my own, and then get a 3M clear bra put on.

Any recommendations on where to get a good 3M put on - good price adn good quality work.
