Question Clutch Sticking Problem (Stuck half way) during Hot Weather

I was wondering if any other Z driver is starting to or have experienced this clutch sticking problem. Applies to Manual transmission only.

It only happens when the weather is hot or when you are in slow traffic clutching often. I started to have this problem late last summer and it disappeared during the winter months and today with the 20C temp, the problem comes back again.

When you press on the clutch, the 1st half of the travel will feel loose (like there's no spring), then the 2nd half of the travel is the same. Then when you release the clutch after shifting, it will only release half way and stays there, but the clutch seems fully engaged. To bring the clutch all the way back up, I have to use my toe to lift the clutch pedal from the back and it will "POP" back up.

People say it has to do with the slave cylinder and maybe clutch fluid.

Anyone took their Z or G to the dealership to get it fixed? I plan to call the dealership Monday.

My 06 Z has 62,000km, anyone know if this will still be under warranty? If it's not under warranty, any suggestion which shop can fix this problem?

Thanks.

I believe the slave cylinder is for 07+, didnt apply to mine, checked up with local nissan as well as nissan usa. Good luck on getting that fixed, you dont want that clutch dropping.

I had the same problem in my 05. Was the clutch slave cylinder. Dealer replaced it under extended warranty. First they quoted me something like $450... then I reminded them to look up my ext warranty.

They found it but then recommended I have them replace the clutch as that would be the best thing to do under the circumstances. Their quote $1100.

I said I would check things out first. They did the slave cylinder and the problem went away. I bought an OEM clutch kit on line for $275 and local shop quoted me $350 labor.

That was almost a year ago and my clutch is still just fine. The kit I bought, still sitting in my closet, un-touched.

The dealer tanked when they lost their Nissan financing... LOL

You can probably get a replacement, and the seals, at courtesynissan.com. Then find a reputable shop that will do it for alot less than the dealer or even find a procedure in a forum (possibly 350ztech.com) and do it yourself.

I had the same problem.

I readjusted the pedal height back to OEM spec as per FSM which you can find here: http://www.*********.com/zwiki/Service:Index

If that doesn't work, then I'd recommend changing the fluid... if that doesn't work, then you know it's slave for sure.

I will get the clutch fluid changed if I can't get the dealer to change the slave cylinder under warranty.

By the way, can you gave me Ed's contact?

Thank you

I had a similar problem when driving in traffic and warm weather, clutch would only come up about half way.
The fix was to replace the clutch line to a braided hose and DOT4 oil.
I got the Forged Performance line and problem gone

The line is only $50 right now

Then it sounds like this clutch sticking problem has to do with too much heat in the clutch fluid.

I just got my clutch fluid flushed and changed with Motul DOT 5.1 clutch fluid. This weekend will be the perfect weather to test it out. I hope I won't have to go as far as changing the clutch line.

The problem seems to be that with the heat the OEM rubber hose expands from the pressure giving the pedal a soft feel. The braided line doesn't expand so the volume of oil moved doesn't change.
You can really feel the difference so it is one of the best $50 i spent on my Z.

I have the same problem. The clutch gets stuck above the biting point so it doesn't affect driving. Annoying tho
