I've been researching it but I don't feel comfortable soldering onto a circuit board. I wouldn't mind paying for this mod if any of the local vendors/shops have done this before. Stock shift light sucks when your screaming around a race track and I don't want a huge aftermarket light that looks nasty on a street car.

 

Its not hard to do this mod at all, all u need to do is is disconnect the stock red light, and split the output for two led's and mount then anywhere you want.

For me i like the stock light =), look around kijiji/craigslist, there was a shop that was offering audi style headlight mod, im sure they will do this for you. good luck

 

Cool thanks. I haven't taken apart the instrument panel yet to see what it's like. But it sounded as if I was soldering onto a circuit bored. I'll have to investigate it further when I take it all apart.

 

how about making sound while the shift light turn on ?
anyone know how to do it ?

 

^Use the LED light power source and hook up to a mini speaker/buzzer.

 

Keep in mind, it's taking the dash apart that's a PITA

 

regarding buzzing sound or beeper, im sure you can find anything like that at electrosonic in markham. Buzzing/beeping sound is a good idea, but can get annoying quick. There could be a switch installed though to simply cut the power to the beeper for the time being, but why not just listen to the engine or feel the car?

My method that i have just tolled you, will give lower current to the 2 bulbs that re going to be powered, therefore they will be a bit darker, unless you go for the smallest bulb with the lowest voltage drop.

ps there will be a little soldering required, only to tap into the source where the stock light is powered, rest is all wires.

 

I rather install a nice 6" 10,000 rpm Monster Tach with blue green red shiftlights in gold face
