Default Has anyone had factory nav installed in their cars?

Hey all,

I had a 350z roadster last year, but I had to sell it off as I was leaving the country for a while, and the payments were too expensive for me to justify it just sitting in a garage for so many months.

Now im back, and looking possible for another car. I found a pretty good one, but with no navigation. I really liked my factory nav in my old car. Has anyone ever installed one from the dealership?

Any idea of the cost? And if they can actually do it without leaving scratches etc. Perhaps a certain dealership in the area has done it more than the others? Or does the car get shipped off to get it done at a central location?

From the research I've done, a factory nav cannot be installed in a 350 that didn't originally come with one. The fabrication is different and they will basically have to gut the entire to car to make it fit. It's going to cost a lot and it's not worth it. You're better off going with aftermarket.

^ correct. If money was ever a concern before, this is not the route you want to go.

The front subharness is different.
You will need the rear sub harness to the DVD drive and the necessary hardware.
There is a member on G35driver who did it in his G coupe. It is very similar.
If you don't have the hardware, aftermarket will be less expansive and can be nicely fitted in the dash cubby

yeah, in all honesty i would go aftermarket.

I have the oem Nav in my Z - and its subpar at best.

I have two aftermarket nav's in my other cars and their abilities are 10 fold in comparison to the factory nav. With the Z it is quite easy to install an aftermarket nav and make it look very factory/clean looking and get a much better working product.

search around, but this thread comes to mind....

whatever you do, dont let the Nav be your deciding factor.........pretty much any aftermarket Nav will whoop the oem nav's butt in quality and abilities...

Thanks for all the info guys!

I guess I cant really compare the factory nav to an aftermarket one since my last car was the first car I ever had with navigation, and I just loved it.

Ideally I prefer to have it in the dash cubby, so a big thanks to JasonZ-YA, that link is pretty much what I would want.

I was weighing heavily on whether the car had navigation or not, but I think I won't concentrate on that anymore since it looks like I can get a better aftermarket one installed quite nicely.

I have the plenio destined for my 2006 roadster.
I had a coupe with factory nav that I removed.
My other coupe is getting the Eclipse AVN 2210P with removable tom tom.
This piece is very accurate and fast.

I did this for my car, although I went with the dual screen set up. Same principle really. You can see it here:

Personally I would go for the latest Garmin product. This way you can switch between vehicles, and use as a hand held device..
