This is using a Plenio VXA-2100 GPS navigation and mounting it to the cubby.

Fits snugly & tight and works great! I modded the navigation software to use iGo8 instead of the crappy Smart2 navi system it came with. That's how i was able to use the NISSAN logo during startup.

The navi is also connect to my JVC headunit which can play DVDs so whenever i want i just turn it on and i can use it a LCD screen as well!

This only works with Plenio VXA-2100 with external GPS antenna which i mounted it on the dash. The Plenio VXA-3000 is slightly bigger and will not fit into the cubby (i know from personal experience, i broke the unit trying to trim it to fit).

when I need navi I tend to just break out our tomtom unit and hold it up to the windshield screaming profanity at it to grab a signal. usually takes about 5 minutes before it grabs a signal, and tends to lose it if I let it sit too low in the car ..

good times. curious if this would fit into the flip-up version of the cubby (as opposed to the unit you have where it flips inside itself?)

 

how did you download the new software to make the logo come out like that?? Iam thinking of buying one now good job there!

i paid $89 + shipping. The ebay one is more expensive.

As for the iGo8 software, i downloaded a copy from a torrent. then used instructions from this pdf:

VXA-2100 & 3000 are basically the same unit except for dimension differences and 2100 has external antenna. The 3000 will not fit in the cubby!

 

Yes the original software comes in English. You have to understand that you are only modding the navi software, the actual device program cannot be changed. Well actually it can be changed, i saw some one install Win CE.

Go ahead i've been running this setup for couple months now and its been great!

Some cons:

1. The nav door doesn't open as smoothly, needs a slight push. But it closes without an issue.

2. Now that the navi unit is behind you can't hear the speakers too well. This unit has Audio Out so you can connect to the Line-In of you cd receiver (aftermarket headunits only) but that means you cant listen to both music and navi voice at the same time. If there was a way to convert the audio out of the navi and tap into the speaker wires...or some way of some sort please let me know!

 

If it has an audio out why don't you just hook up an amplified center channel speaker to it and hide the speaker in the footwell somewhere?

 

I don't see this thing for any less then like 180$-200$..how'd you get it for so cheap?

 

If you search under the completed listings in ebay you will see that there was a seller in Connecticut who was selling a "lot" of these (approximately six or so) and he/she was accepting best offers (accepted offers from $80 to $89) on the units.

 

That seller is no longer there? Boo.

 

Since you have a single DIN headunit, you could get one of these:

The amp should be small enough to tuck away under the seat for ease of installation and you will have a dedicated center channel speaker for your navigation for around $155. Worth every penny if you rely on the voice guidance a lot. The amp doesn't say it's bridgeable, but you can run just 1 channel.

I'm using an Alpine SBS-0715 with the amplifier and speaker mounted underneath my dash for the voice guidance for my OEM navigation system. I had to do this since this there is no "mute" type feature on my Mcintosh headunit.

I think the unit I used is discontinued though, but it is perfect.
