Default Help....Engine light on after install HF-Cat

I am driving a 2007 HR 350z. I currently installed a (Random Technology) High Flow Cat and installed 2 new 02 sensors. Everything were working well until I drove for around 50km. The engine light came on. So I thought I need to install an 02 extension, so it won't get too rich for the sensor. I reset the engine light, and it came up again after 30km. The engine code are P0430 and P2A00. Anyone know whats the problem? By the way, I didn't install any gasket attached to the header. Do you think this is the reason? THANKS

Wow, that one is a bit of a monster to diagnose... The service manual says to check: exhaust system, exhaust gas leaks, intake air leak, ignition timing, injector voltages, ignition spark and injector leaks. Any one of those could cause the code. I assume you cleared to code and it came back (clearing the code is always your first step to see if the problem is intermittent.) The O2...

- Scan Tool
If using a scan tool, follow tool manufacturer’s instructions to clear Codes.

- Manual Method
Here is a quick way to reset your ECU. It is also known to clear codes thrown, and turn off the "Service Engine Soon" Light.

Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
Repeat the following two procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds:
Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD).
Fully release the accelerator pedal.
Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the CEL starts blinking.
Fully release the accelerator pedal (while the CEL is still blinking)
Wait about 10 seconds.
Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for more than 10 seconds.
Fully release the accelerator pedal (The CEL light will continue to blink).
Turn ignition switch to “OFF” position and now you can start the car. The CEL light should be gone.

- With Consult

Turn ignition Off.
Connect Consult’the data link connector (DLC), located behind fuse box cover.
Turn ignition On.
Touch Start.
Touch Engine.
Perform each diagnostic test mode according to each service procedure.

- Without Consult
Turn ignition On.
Turn diagnostic mode selector on ECU fully clockwise and wait until inspection lamps flash. #Number of flashes displayed indicates corresponding mode.
Note number of flashes, then immediately turn diagnostic mode selector fully counterclockwise.
If ignition is turned Off during diagnosis, in each mode, and then turned back on again after power to the ECU has dropped off completely, diagnosis will automatically return to Mode I.
For description of modes, proceed as follows:

(Mode I): with engine stopped, system in bulb check state. with engine running, system in malfunction warning state.

(Mode II): with engine stopped, system in self diagnostic results state. with engine running, system in front O2S monitor state.

APPLIED VEHICLE: 2001 QX4 (JR50)
SERVICE INFORMATION
If an applied 2001 QX4 has a MIL "ON" and either or both of the following DTCs stored in the ECM:
P0420
P0430
Use the appropriate Service Procedure steps to determine if the bulletin applies to this vehicle. If the bulletin
applies, complete the applicable Service Procedure steps to repair the incident, if it should occur.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
You will perform the following, as required:
Determine the DTC Stored in the ECM from the CONSULT-II Self-diagnosis results.
ECM Part Number Check to determine if this bulletin applies.
ECM Reprogramming (required if the ECM P/N in the vehicle matches one of those listed under “Current
ECM P/N” in Chart A - page 2).
IMPORTANT: Do NOT replace the catalytic converters as part of this procedure.
2/3
Determine the DTC Stored in the ECM:
1. Determine which DTC code is stored in the vehicle's ECM by performing CONSULT-II Self-Diagnosis.
2. Print out the Self-Diagnosis results for use in ECM Part Number Check, below. See Figure 1 for an
example of the CONSULT-II Self-Diagnosis printout.
Figure 1
ECM Part Number Check
1. Compare the vehicle's current ECM P/N (from your CONSULT-II Self Diagnosis printout) to those shown
under Current ECM P/N in Chart A, below:
Chart A – Current ECM P/N's:

A. If the ECM P/N in the vehicle matches one of those listed under "Current ECM P/N" in Chart A
(above):
Look in the “Vehicle Configuration” column in Chart A (above) and determine the vehicle
“configuration.” Make a note of the vehicle configuration and perform ECM Reprogramming on
page 3.
B. If the ECM P/N in the vehicle does not match one of those listed under "Current ECM P/N" in Chart A
(above):
This bulletin does not apply. Use the appropriate Electronic Service Manual (ESM) to further

sounds like there's a leak from your hfc install since you didn't use the gaskets. I'd take to Ed at aph to get it checked out/installed

Coles notes:

-install the gaskets to eliminate your exhaust leak which is throwing you the codes

- use an obd 2 scan tool to erase the codes

- the end

Its the same as P0430... But the drivers side. p0430 is drivers side p0420 is passengers side. You need to put stainless steel wool in the cat's o2 bungs. Or fix your leak maybe?

Stop asking questions and go to SG to get it straightened out. /Thread
