Default Annoying clutch-take-off chatter...

is now gone!!!!!!

Tonight I installed my Stillen Engine Damper and it's nothing short of amazing. It completely transformed the car, and made it much more fun to drive. That annoying drivetrain lash is eliminated, making shifting and starting-from-a-stop infinitely smoother.

The installation took an hour from start to finish, and was about as difficult as installing an intake. Everything lined up perfectly and the fit and finish was excellent. I know what you're thinking, it's made by Stillen, and we all know their reputation. But this is really worth buying. I'm amazed that the Z doesn't come like this from the factory.

Before owning the Z I drove a Spec V. On those cars, everyone installs polyurethane engine mount inserts to achieve the same effect. The downside is that the car shakes like crazy at idle and above 3K RPM. None of these negative effects are present with the damper in the Z.

Best $100 spent so far on the Z!

Default Stillen Engine Damper.

Did you find this on the Stillen web site?.

I've been getting that nasty backlash $hit on my 05 Roadster. I just thought it was because of all the extra weight she is haulin... LOL

I get that backlash shifting into second and sometimes into third...

After taht it's all smoth from there...

What is actualy causing that backlash???.

The theory is that it's caused by the engine moving around on it's mounts...I have an '04 coupe with a 5/04 build date for background info.

The damper can be bought as part of a group buy from Performance Nissan--you can PM Jason@Performan and he'll make sure that you get the free shipping and cheaper price.

Edogg,
Can you post the installation guide for the Engine Damper? I am clueless where this thing is connected to. Thanks bro.

I don't have a scanner here that I can use to post the instructions, but there is a bracket that attaches with three bolts underneath the power steering resevoir. The other end of the damper attaches to the timing chain cover on a grounding strap bolt and power steering pump bolt.

Getting everything lined up takes some patience, but it's definately worth it. I wouldn't recommend this if it weren't worth it, and it takes a lot for me to recommend a Stillen product

I'll try and take some detailed pics of the installed product tonight.
