Frustrating -
look, a turbo does nothing for cornering or braking. If you lighten up the car it help cornering, braking and acceleration.
Ipod is a good idea yet don't want to wear headphones in the car and a FM modulator will still need a radio.
At one of the AutoX's I went to one of the Z guys said he replaced the stock radio with something else (I can't remember now) and he saved a lot of weight. And I still want to listen to tunes in my car (and I don't want to hum).

 

gut out the car.. use lighter rims.. take off the rear window whiper/motor.. take off your AC unit, remove your window washer fluid canister (or drain the water at least), dont keep extra crap in the compartments

 

Yes - like I said I have read all of that in this forum, and have done most of it already. And it does make a huge difference.

Yet, I still want my XM and no one has mentioned replacing the Radio with something lighter. My stock Z has a 6 disc changer and a tape deck that I never use. So, I believe if I just install a radio that can take my XM, it should weigh a lot less, just want to know if someone already has the specs on this.

 

Is that an ARC strut bar, if not what kind is it?

When I race I remove subs (75 lbs), spare tire, and rear mat.

 

Well, I took my Z to a National Guard base where they have a digital scale. With a full tank of gas (or close to it), I weighed in at 3300 lbs. Nissan claims my 03 Touring weighs 3247. I'm sure that's w/o any fluids in the car. If I had an empty tank, that's at least another 120 lbs off.

Then I took the rear trunk mats out, along with the spare tire, tools, and the floor mats. Got it down to 3250. Not bad.

I don't have the stock cats on anymore. They've been replaced with Helix straight pipes. I also have the Hotchkis swaybars and springs. Don't know how much of a difference that makes, but I'm sure it's only a couple of pounds, at least.

I don't know what else to take out of the car w/o compromising some comfort and amenities that I enjoy (at least that's what I tell myself with those monthly payments to justify my need for the Z).

I suppose a dry cell battery, no windshield washer fluid, and completely removing the AC system could get me close to 3000 lbs (with no gas).

Next step is to get those new wheels and tires on and try again, this time with barely any gas in the car.

I don't think the AC system, battery, and washer fluid will save you 130 lbs. Plus, that's a huge compromise you're going to have to make if you take out the AC.

Curb weights are generally assumed wet(full of fluids), else gross weight wouldn't mean anything to anyone.(not that it does anyway, lol)

 

The website for the CF doors states for track use only. That is understable ecause all the safty features are removed for weight savings. My question is if someone has the ball to run a CF door on the street can you put the glass window motor and alll the acessories from your stock door on the CF door. It was just suck etting caught in the rain with no glass.

 

Thats the way to step in there! I read the thread and the only thing I see your car does not have glass and so forth, but you car is pretty much a track car.and bad a$$ at that. So for sure there is a company that would make CF doors with the daily driver in mind. Its like high performance parts tha say for track only, knowing good and well in the states that do not have to deal with emissions and so forth we are going to buy the parts.

 

The A/C doesnt weight anything, I think it was about 30-30lbs in my car, the compressor weighted the most, the condesor didnt weight anything, same with the lines

 

You can fit the OEM stock glass in the carbon doors and the stock door panel, you can even paint them to look like stock

A lot of the weight savings is in the door glass, window motor, stock mirrors, door crash bar, etc.. You can also fit a lexan/plexiglass window which can still be rolled down, or rivet one on race-car style.

 

For those who want to get rid of their glass:

Sumopower.com can special order pre-cut lexan windows from Japan. They run these on their drift car. (I ordered the driver and passenger side, however they won't be here for a while yet, so I can't comment on them.)

If interested you'd only need the front windshield, driver's side, and passenger's side windows special ordered due to the curves.

The rear quarter windows and the rear hatch can be cut out of straight sheets and bolted on.

 

reading this thread, people are concerned with removing weight from the rear. under track conditions, adding a rear spoiler will help push a light rear end down. i'm trying to get my car <3000lbs for track too.

 

I added a single pipe JIC titanium exhaust and a Stillen Y-pipe; must have saved at least 50 pounds over my full dual Stillen exhaust.

I also removed the rear hanger that was now not being used any longer on the passenger side of the car and the rubber bit from the one just forward of that one. Not much - might be worth a pound or so total. (Every little bit counts!).

Also changed to some ultra-lightweight forged lugnuts. They weigh just 0.6 oz. (17g) each!

 

When they corner balance a car, is it done with the driver in the driver's seat?

 

Yes, you should do this. Or you can place some weight equal to the drive in the seat to simulate the drivers weight. You should also try to have all the loose items taken out and gas tank filled to where you normally run it when you're at the track (usually 1/2 tank).
