I'm looking for an estimate for what a good price would be to have a shop install a new JWT clutch/flywheel on my Z. I called Mossy Nissan here in San Diego yesterday and they said $550, which sounds pretty expensive to me, i mean people install turbo kits for only $1000 sometimes.
Thanks,
Alex

I paid a place $190 to do it. They crushed my dowel pin by not aligning it and torquing the flywheel down. I'll never make the mistake of letting someone else work on my car again.
edit: I know that's cheap as ****. I should've known.

I had ZcarGARAGE in San Jose install JWT clutch and flywheel just two weeks ago. Labor was $465. That was $65 more than a local shop with a great reputation but, the folks at ZcarGARAGE know the model inside and out.
I had to drive the car 60 miles down to San Jose and use a rental car for a week until I could get back down on Friday to pick it up.
I also had them replace the master, line & slave to ensure that I didn't end up with a toasted clutch and sticking slave cylinder again in 20,000 miles.
Initially, I was very hesitant to go this route. I was worried they'd not be any better than something local and that, based on their Z reputation they'd charge me up the ying yang and try to up sell me. But, they did not and instead, the owner engaged me in rational discussion and listened to my concerns. It was worth every penny and the logistical issues as well to have a specialty shop that knows their stuff do this and make suggestions as well.
The tech at the local, reputable shop asked me, just as we went out to open the hood so he could take a look, if Zs were front wheel drive.
I would have loved to have gotten under there myself and done the replacement, but who has the time. And, that $465 seems cheap comparatively to the entire weekend I would have spent doing it....maybe longer because I work real slow and double check everything.
