What kind of ECU I should get? What brand? How much does it cost?

From what I hear, Technosquare will custom tune your ECU to your mods for around $500. If you get more mods later, subsequent reflashes are like $150 or so.

Here is the garantee youll beat a STI from roll or dig unless STI is heavilly MODDED (Even if you suck pretty bad at driving )
Final drive 3.9+Nismo LSD $2400
Wheels 18' 8.5 front 245/40 9.5 Rear 275/40 $2500
Kinetix/Crawford Plenum $400
ECU Reflash IE:Technosquare, AAM $650
Cat back IE: BORLA/STILLEN/NISMO + Test Pipe STILLEN/NISMO/XERD<--Cheapest. Around $350

But with all this above done you could have gotten a Stillen supercharger stage2 installed for $6500. But to hook up the supercharger well you would still need rims and tires.

Heres the wellfare way If your a good driver
3.9 Ring and Pinion w/o LSD or Reflash and Plenum for around the same money.
Tires 'put the rears to the front and put 265/275 on the rear' I am pretty sure thats as big as you can go on rear with stock rims and thats even pushing it.
Cat back Exhaust/Test pipe

Headers are not needed unless your also getting cammed. Alberto is a excellent example. IE: On 350z chicks website they put in NISMO cams and XERD headers and got 29HP total for Approx $2500. .. BUT that was after full exhaust, Plenum, Reflash and many other mods.

Heres the break down with your budget in mind.
Final drive w/o LSD $900 for final drive. $350 for install=$1250
Tires- 2 continental sport=$350 + Mount and balance $85=$435
Cat back- Stillen/Borla/Injen/Nismo. Majority you can get for $800 "a retard can install this"
Then some sweet *** test pipes off ebay jk XERD race pipes $100

Give or take a little $2585

Honestly you will still be under the cost of his STI on your wellfare plan, considering a STI loaded is $37,500 NEW.

Now if I were you. I would save my money and get a Stillen supercharger stage 2 with warranty and rims/tires. <---Right there is your insurance to beat a STI.

If you really want to beat him...just park next to each other, stand back and look at the cars. I have seen a turbo Integra beat a 360 Modena....nobody would have driven home in the Integra if the 360 was an option.

I dont understand how is it fair for the Integra owners to think that they can mod like crazy and leave the Modena bone stock. If Modenas are modded like crazy they could take almost any Integra anyday, maybe not the ones with jet engines.

Put a "Powered by Nissan" sticker on the windshield. 30HP guaranteed.

Do you have any links where I can see the ECU? I like to check out. Do you mean that if I change my exhaust and I set the ECU then later want to get intake, test pipe and etc, I have to reset or reflash the ECU?

Lose a lot of weight. Look at the Elise with it's 190hp engine hanging with STi.

IMO, my car has pretty much all NA mods and I'm still not confident I'd beat a STI.

It'd cost you a lot of money to do. $3000 won't even bring you close.

I think some of us have too much faith in the Z.

BTW, STI's I think have 60% of the power going to the rear wheels and 40% to the front wheels

After take off, the STI's AWD starts working against it. AWD has more driveline loss than RWD, and in a drag race or highway race, AWD doesn't help - and only hurts straight line performance because you really want 100% power to rear wheels where the weight is being shifted.

STI's are just simply FAST cars. They're not pretty, but they're beasts.

Its already been proven that a decent driver in a stock 350z can take a STI. Check streetfire.net and check the racing forums on here from about 2 weeks ago where mantis and a couple others race a STI and beat it.

But thats besides the point i just want to actually be able to beat the Sti. What have you z owners out there done to get your car to the be a 13 second quarter mile range because i heard the sti runs 13.2 second. I'm actually hoping that i can beat him on the top speed becasue i am not really sure that an Sti can go 155 like my Z. The overall question is what mods do i put in my 05 track Z to beat an Sti without using forced induction? And how much would the mods cost?

Thanks for helping a fellow 350Z man out
YOU NEED MORE STICKERS BRO!!

man $3000 is more than enough to beat an STI, i got an ECU reflash for 350, test pipes for 125, Y-pipe for 400, Plenum spacer, 250, JWT intake 125, CLutch, flywheel, pressure plate 800. Totalled thats less than 2000 ive spent and im on stock rims with Pirellie P-Neros which hook up amazingly on the street, not like it matters much from a roll. WIth those few mods i can walk by an STI from say a 45 roll.

Learn to drive it first, not being mean .You must learn your car feel your car. I beat one from a 30mph roll the other day and I am stock basically. He couldnt believe I was stock except for exhaust and cai but I would never attempt a dig, he will almost out launch you everytime.Race him form a roll 30-40 that is where our powerband will really shine shift fast like Alberto said shifting makes a difference, if it takes 2 seconds durring shift points how can you ever make up that time. Hopefully no one takes that long but just an example.....if your going to mod all I can say is research there is a lot of diff mods out there get the best bang for the buck for hp

Well, you can Rev on him at a red light... then quickly make a right turn when it's green. You'll definitely beat him to that right turn.

I believe you should get just about all the N/A mods you want to get before reflashing. For 04/05 350z's they use preset ecu programs to match closest to whatever mods you have, plus they can custom tune if they are not satisfied of the results.
