Default What do i have to do to keep up with an STi!!

I have just bought my 350z and i love it i just want to know how i can beat an Sti without forced induction. Basically, my friend has a bone stock Sti and it has been pissing me off how he always brags that it can beat any 350Z without even trying (witch i think is bull). But thats besides the point i just want to actually be able to beat the Sti. What have you z owners out there done to get your car to the be a 13 second quarter mile range because i heard the sti runs 13.2 second. I'm actually hoping that i can beat him on the top speed becasue i am not really sure that an Sti can go 155 like my Z. The overall question is what mods do i put in my 05 track Z to beat an Sti without using forced induction? And how much would the mods cost?

Thanks for helping a fellow 350Z man out

Key note - if your going from a dig he'll take you...but if you go from a roll there are others that have taken a stock sti with a stock Z..but it should be even from a roll at the least

how much are you willing to spend to prove to your friend that your modded z can beat his stock sti?

If his STI is stock, and I take it your Z is as well, you could beat him at the top end. STI's are quick off from a dig, but after the triple digits the car doesn't have enough puff to keep up with your Z.
It also depends on how good your opponent is and how good of a driver you are.
If you race from a roll, you should beat him. From a stand still he will have the advantage.
To put the odds in your favor, I'd look into a UR pulley, exhaust, flywheel, and intake. Also think about wider aftermarket wheels for better rear wheel traction for quicker launches.

suck the gas out of his tank.

lol, you aint gonna beat him without FI unless you go to some forged internals and get the redline up a few thousand. oh and drag slicks. and then youll have a 45-50 thousand dollar Z and your friend will still mock you. suck it up; and go try and autocross; watch as his front heavy; front wheel drive biased STI understeers into the cones.

than fight with your friend with the S2k that he can beat you at autocross; and take him to the drag strip.

You have $3000? I would apply for a credit card or get a loan for $7000 & get twin turbo.

Please tell me one of two things. Either will do:

1. You have some gigantic, regular source of income that will replace all of that money. Examples: You sell drugs or organs, or you use organs to smuggle drugs in, or you smuggle organs in the drugs. You're a stripper. You have a trust fund. You jack cars.

2. You live with your parents/girlfriend/my mom and they pay all your bills.

On a different note: you do realize that even if you mod your Z so that you can beat his stock STi, he's still going to laugh at you because you had to mod your car to beat his stock. This isn't like a Civic where you buy a cheap car and mod it with NOS and Type-R stickers so you can beat Ferraris.

Drive better. My little brother has an STi. We race every time we get along side each other. He pulls me out of the hole but thats it. I catch up quickly and take him for the quarter.

I think with a final drive (+ tires would help too), and you'll still be less than $3k (I think).

I think that you should get an intake, headers, test pipe, y pipe, cat back exhaust. It will gain at least 20-25 hp. Furthermore, you might want to get wider and lighter wheels. That's pretty much how you tune your Z. Just make sure you get the right products and you ll gain HP.

Don't do the above unless you're also getting an ECU reflash IMO.
