What do i have to do to keep up with an STi!!
Tilton flywheel and clutch combo. 350 Evo 3.9 final. JIC Y pipe. Better rubber. This is the way I would spend the 3K. Might be an extra few hundred with labour. You should be able to walk a stock STI with this combo without any trouble.
your stock z will beat a stock sti on the road anyday as long as like everyone else said not from a stand still, me and my bud he has a modded sti and i have a few bolt on mods and we are allmost allways neck and neck sometimes he wins sometimes i win.
I think the answer is spend anywhere from 4-6K on performance mods & labor based on what people are posting here just to take a stock STI. If the STI has some performance mods, even just a simple Stage 2 kit (TBE & ECU) your going to need a TT setup.
Just for ****s& giggles I raced a 350z last night with my '06 STI and it wasn't even close - from a dig I had 3 car lengths on him before I shifted into third, and i just continued to pull on him till I hit 100 and then I slowed down - point proven. The guy who owns the car is dating one of my neighbors, and he stop by today to chat, he was very surprised on how fast the STI is - but what he really wanted is a ride in my 600+ hp G35... lol still a couple of weeks away from that though…

I would bet that nobody here that claims the Z can beat an STi has driven both cars. There is no way you should be trying to beat an STi in a straight line. Dollar for dollar, the STi will win every time, period. I have driven both cars, stock and modded, on the same day, so the driver variable was out of the equation. Even a lightly modded STi was pulling like mad at 160, where I quit. Try that in your Z. This particular STi had less than $3K in bolt-ons and ECU tuning, and had run low 12s consistently (didn't see it, but I don't doubt it). I will admit that when I let off at 160+ it did slow down really quick, but what do you expect from a brick with wheels. The point is that the STi will take to mods very well, and all else being equal, it will beat the Z in a drag race, stock or modded.

Just my opinion. Fast cars make bad drivers go fast in a straight line. Good drivers make slow cars go good around a race track. I would spend time and learn how to drive your car more efficiently. Then offer to go to willow springs and track both your cars. This is a more effective way to go about it. 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are nice, but let me tell you a good track time is more impressive. Just my 2 cents.
Who cares if you lose to an STi? I'm sorry but an STi is a better car to modify. I'm a former WRX owner so I know my stuff about Subarus. Anyways, I think you knew when you bought your Z, that it wouldn't be a fast car (drag racing). As someone else said, worry about road racing. Thats what counts anyways. Although, I still think the STi might have the better hand...
