Exclamation Where can I get a sub 3.3 final drive?

Is there even one on the market?

With the Quaife install pushed back another 5 weeks it gives me time to agressivly hunt for a taller final drive. I've been reading all over the forums about how people can't hook up @ the higher power because they are too torquey.

A taller FD should help with that... It will also help me because I HATE shifting to 2nd before 60!!!!

How much tq do you have that it's become a problem? Or is this in anticipation?

I peak @ over 350 ft/lbs. I will be over 450 by next summer... I don't want to do my tail twice.

Riding 2nd to 80 would be nice as well...

You can use the 350Z 5at enthusiast differential..I believe they were all VLSD equipped.

www.car-part.com search under "carrier"

There are a few for $275-350 for complete locking rear 5at differentials. Complete turnkey drop-in units.

The 5AT is a 3.36 and you can go 0-60 in 2nd gear.

Yes. You can go with the factory 5at 3.3's, 6mt 3.5's or the evo 3.9's. Those are currently the only options.

I dont think the 3.3 FD will work with LSD's made for the 3.5 / 3.9 gearing...

All swaps we have done from 3.3 to 3.5 have needed a new VLSD since the ring gear on the 3.5's will then sit too short... people have posted pictures of this in some threads too... dont remember the board though...

So the 3.3 gearing wont work with the factory VLSD, NISMO LSD, and any other aftermarket LSD's meant for the 3.5 gearing...

some form of adapter plate will have to be made...

So Jason... if the ring gear on the 3.3 is thicker... by like 10mm? (The same distance that the Quafie is off?)

*starts doing some internet searches*

Thats what i understand. That the 3.3 gears are 10mm thicker and thats why the quaife will only work with the AT gears since it was modeled after a base AT car.

Well I've suspected that... now I guess I have to callup a Nissan parts place and get my hands on the ring gear... (This could be an expensive mistake... )

youll need the pinion gear too, as they are both different for the 3.3

and youll need all the seals and bearings that need to be replaced when you swap out the gearing.

Well I'm going to order the 3.36 gear/drive pinion etc...

(Actualy Torque freaks is going to order it thru Jason@performancenissan)

Once I get the bolts from Quaife I'll have the 3.3, the 3.5, the Quaife, and all the parts layed out... and we'll see what fits.

Worst case... I can resell a brand new 3.3.... =D

I have 410lb/ft of peak torque, stock gearing and ZERO traction issues. What people need is stickier, wider tires...not a super tall gearing change.

There are so many jokers on here running around on either stock 245 RE040s or 20 inch rims with no sidewall on the tire to flex during launch or low speed acceleration.

if you want a drag race car... adjust rear camber as close to 0 as possible to get the most rubber on the ground..

They are identical parts between the G and Z.
