Default Changing fuel filter

At what mileage do you need to change your fuel filter? Has anyone done it at home?

From what I read of other post, there is no filter on the car. It may have a strainer but no filter.

I just looked through the facotry service manual and it does refer to a fuel filter but it says nothing about disassembly of it. However it does refer to a ful pump strainer that should be cleaned if any foreign material is found in it. The strainer is built onto the fuel pump so the pump must be removed from vehicle to clean it. Hope that helps.

Yeah, that helps. Thanks a lot. Hmmm, where is the fuel pump located? Is it easy to access?

its actually is very easy to get to. Just open your compartment door behind your passenger seat. Pop out the floor of the compartment, pull out the sound deadening pad and there is your fuel tank! Remove the plastic cover by turning the 4 black tabs a 1/4 turn and move out of the way. Remove the 5-10 or how ever many small screws on the fuel tank and there you have it. You'll be able to pull out your fuel pump assembly. You'll have to take the "bucket" piece off and there is you filter/strainer. Really simple and honestly we are very lucky to have such easy access to our fuel pump!! It could be worse, you could have a car where you need to drop the tank first and then do all that I have explained above!

Actually, the service manual lists it as a "maintenance free item".

The fuel level sensor, the fuel pump and fuel filter are all part of an assembly that's down in the fuel tank. The only maintenance that the service manual describes appears to be on the fuel level sensor; therefore the pump and filter may be a single integrated unit.

What does it say about servicing the fuel level sensor? How to replace it or what?

Nothing other than how to remove and re-install it. Not typical for the service manual. Usually there are diagnostic procedures, specifications, etc. for most components. That leaves me to believe that all you can do is buy a new level sensor or fuel pump and replace it, no repair or rebuild.

If you want to check out a copy of the service manual yourself, try
