Default Fidanza Shifter Review

I purchased and waited patiently for the Fidanza shifter. I was not disappointed with how short it was. Here is a video of my car shifting
with the Fidanza shifter. Am I driving a sequential transmission!!??

Vid of ticking off shifts

But I was disappointed with how long it lasted!! Two track days later, POP! Stay away from Fidanza unless you have no upper body strength.

Mine would get stuck and could not push the shifter down to go into reverse after getting hot, bad product.

We here at Fidanza have sold thousands of the 350Z Short Throw Shifters, & have had virtually ZERO tech issues. In fact we have this Shifter Installed in our Project Car RED ZED, a 2004 350Z, which resulted in extremely quick & positive shifts. This Z is not a trailer Queen , I drive it on a daily basis (Cleveland weather permitting). This shifter has functioned perfectly for me , even when slamming through the gears. Please keep in mind that there are some specific alignment measures (see factory install procedure) that must be followed when installing any 350Z shifter to achieve correct alignment and function.

Also installed on RED ZED we have our lightweight Aluminum Flywheel & our soon to be released 4.3 level, 6 paddle ceramic Clutch Kit.....Revs incredibly fast , and puts all the available power to the pavement.

FIDANZA / VORTECH / THE DREAM CAR FACTORY / DEI / DPE / DUNLOP / EVOLUTION AUTO DESIGN / GRILLCRAFT / JWT / NY-TREX / VIBRANT / ZEX / QTP / LOVELLS / AUDIOBAHN / FAZE / LSD / MOTORSPORT AUTO

You've sold thousands of Fidanza shifters? That is the biggest load of crap I've heard in a while. I'd be even more suprised if at least 1% of these buyers didn't find their way to this forum and post a review... well, there is one review out there on this entire forum, and it is a negative one.

So you've run one on your car with no problems? Gee, imagine that...

btw, nice attached image... that really proves that it works.

Well I will tell my story to supplement the firt post.

I got mine from Ebay about a year ago but I assume it is legit and not a copy, it has a Findanza label on the box and guess what, the shipper shows Ultrarev Inc as the shipper!!!!!

After driving for a while or driving hard and the tranny area getting hot I coud not get the car into reverse, which posed a pain if I just went in to get something and then couldn't pull out until the car cooled off, plus it scared me when it first happened and I didn't know it was the shifter.

It appears that the cup is made of rubber/plastic and when it gets hot it expands and gets stuck and wont let you push down on the shifter to get it into reverse until it cools down.

Paypal account I sent payment to was Ultrarev Inc website www.ultrarev.com email info@ultrarev.com

Well, I sent emails and pictures to Fidanza and also to the ebay seller without response.

Here are a couple of emails I sent to Ultrarev without any response:

I don't know if this is really a Fidanza part as it was not in the box =
but I wouldn't sell it any more, when the car gets hot from either long =
trips (hours) or hard driving the shifter seems to get stuck and you =
cannot push it down to get it in reverse, you have to wait for the car =
to cool down and then you get reverse again and the play is a little =
sloppy too lose, I am going to go back to the stock shifter.

I bought the above item which was a Fidanza Short Shifter for a 350Z =
back in May and I had not left feedback as I was trying it out to see =
how it worked and have to tell you it is a piece of crap.

Being Fidanza I figured it would be a good product, you have a good =
reputation and only sell car performance parts so I figured it was safe. =
I even checked the Fidanza website and although the site did not show =
the shifter, pictures of other shifters looked similar so I went ahead =
and bought it and put it in and was unhappy almost right away and =
finally got around to taking it off and putting the stock one back on.

The issues I had with it were:=20

The shifter had a lot of wobble similar to when the bushings wear out, =
also the base/bushings where it bolts to the tranny linkage was not wide =
enough and had too much play.=20

The shifting was very notchy and sometimes was hard to get into 5th/6th, =
this was probably because it doesn't use the stock guide plate, it made =
the stock shifter feel like you were cutting through butter with a hot =
knife.=20

And now the worst, when it got hot like during hard driving or a long =
trip over an hour the shifter got stuck and you could not get it into =
reverse, the first time it happened was in Atlanta on my way to Zdays =
and it freaked me out until I realized that it was probably the cup =
expanding and getting stuck in the tranny linkage I would have to wait =
for things to cool of or sometimes punching the top of the shifter did =
it.

I saw you don't sell them now but I would try to make sure they are =
Fidanza and not sell them any more.

Both without response, I gave up and moved on but they are selling them again.

We sold 41 shifters since the begining of this year and 2 people had problems if you have contacted Fidanza you would of had it replaced at no cost. I come to understand that if you install it correctly it will work perfectly if you dont you have problems Its also possible of maybe getting a defective shifter but not to worry we sent a few shifters out to random people at no cost just to see how it goes I will keep everyone posted.

Well if you have such a good track record, why don't you take care of these guys who are having problems instead of sending shifters to "random people at no cost" ?

All they had to do was call Fidanza speak to tech and get a new one for free contact me if you want me to arrange it.

I contacted you, or tried to contact you and no response, not even a "tough ****" just ignored.

In reality I don't want it, IT SUCKS.

Trust me first it was installed at the shop when I had my clutch changed, then I left to go to Zdayz last year to first have it get stuck when I got to Atlanta, first time I tried reverse, and freaked, I had to push the car out of the parking spot.

So after figuring out it was the shifter and it was ok when it cooled down, I went to a parts store and bought some tools since I was 700 miles from home, and took the shifter out and reinstalled it, with no change in outcome, I tried about 5 times to reinstall it and same outcome.

How could it work fine when cold and then not when it is hot and this be an installation problem!!!!

I will accept that maybe mine is extreme as I have turbos and maybe they cause more heat that na cars casuing the rubber to expand more, but this wi probably happen also if driving the car hard at a track event. But I also htought the feel was sloppy like the bushings were too small and allowed too much play in the stick.

Just not worth the headache for the small reduction in ****ing distance, stock is fine.

Again I come to figure out that they released a batch of 5-6 of these then few months later we recieved a whole new shipment they must of changed the new design we will see after the reviews start coming in.

No, I won't run a two piece shifter in a car that is tracked regularly.

I'm sure plenty of people who run this shifter will do just fine. I have to be able to count on my shifter during a track event. This shifter is not reliable for that kind of activity.
