Its actually not that bad doing everything inside the car .. I have had really no problems yet. I have logged about 6 Hours on the car thus far with the motor in. Probably will have 12 logged when all is said and done.
When you say bolts out of the cam gears... do you mean the bolts holding them to the camshaft?

lol I have a engine hoist on it right now with the upper oil pan almost put back together.. I left it loose to ease the pain of pulling off the timing cover. When I changed the connecting rod bolts, the bearings are fine so that made me smile.. I torqued them to spec so... that is all set now.. that took me 4 hours of hell!!
Iam going back down right now to start marking the Cam positions to the chain and Iam goign to MIC the chain tensioner and write it down so I know how tight it was before, just for refrence.. But I am doing it Cam By Cam one at a time. I figured that should make it easier so the car will def. be in time so I dont have to F with it later.
Man, this sounds like one hell of an install. More than I care to tackle myself with hand tools in my garage (and I have so far done all my Z installations myself).
Not to hi-jack the thread, but can anyone recommed an experienced installer for Nismo cams in the Phoenix area? I got a set on eBay for only $622, so I figure what I saved on the cams I can spend to have them installed.

Looking at a shop charging you about 12 hours for the install...
If you want to drive to our shop and get a hotel for a night, we can do your cam install for you!
We can only install CARB approved products,
BUT! If the car is from out of state... Its all game

Tonight the Timing Cover is totally pulled. This was one of the biggest pain in *****.. given the amount of room I was working with. But either way its off. I marked the gears with Right Intake, Left Intake ect ect... I also marked the chain in association to the gears just incase.

no need really to mark the chain location. the colored links are used to mate everything back up. that part is pretty easy and straight forward. get your service manuals yet, lol. its all in there.

It seems that when you get cams if they give you springs it usually means that you need them unless otherwise stated. Not familiar with the JWT's what degree are they?
It already sounds like you are willing to take you time, it may be best to have someone knowledgable with you if possible, just to help out. Good luck it sounds like quite a project.

If the intake cam on the right bank spins harder then it should .. what does that usually indicate?

Jason, so you will need to take off those timing covers too as well as those cam gears to remove the heads, right?
That's pretty damn good/fast to remove heads and re-install the cams in a day mate! You guys are truely experienced! I wish you guys were my neighbours...

Jason, also a quick question regarding to all the gaskets (sorry to hijack the thread a bit), as you know that I clipped one exhaust valve due to valve float after my engine was rebuilt with all the brand new gaskets, and we are going to pull the heads off again (after less than 10km on the dyno), do you reckon we can still re-use all the rest of the gaskets besides the cylinder head gaskets? Thanks man!

no do not re-use... they are cheap enough rather then paying the labor again...
you will want a valve re-grind kit... It is basicly all of the gaskets from the head gaskets up...

off topic... I just got some S15 SR20DET exhaust manifold gaskets... Picture the 350Z exhaust manifold gasket (the 2 layer metal gasket) but with 7 layers! NUTTY!
