Default ECU Replacement Concerns

If we put a new ECU in our cars, will we lose variable valve timing (phase) and VDC/VTC (the cutting power bit, not the braking)?

I would guess the answer will be different depending on whether one goes with a piggy back or a complete replacement ECU...

Anyone with past experience replacing the ECU on technologically advanced cars? What features, if any, were lost?

Thanks,
Jeff

None. I would never buy an ECU that is going to remove features. As I stated in an earlier post, aftermarket ECU's are factory ECU's with a reprogrammed EPROM chip. The EPROM chip is what controls timing, a/f mixture, rev limiter, fuel delivery, top speed governer.

I agree. You shouldnt lose features. If anything youll gain a few horses and a ticket here and there

An upgraded ECU is only good for NA applications, if you plan on FI, then new engine management should be used. With that, they'll just completely remap every everything.

So would you lose variable valve timing and and VDC with a new engine management system?

Thanks,
Jeff

If a chip "removes" anything, it'll be the rev-limiter and top-speed governor.

Mines has a chip out... can't remember the website....

Mines makes the thing that removes the speed limiter and rev limiter but i wouldnt consider that an upgrade. So with that said, no.
