Thumbs up JWT Clutch and Flywheel Installed

Yesterday I finally got around to getting the JWT flywheel and clutch installed in the Z yesterday that had been sitting in my garage for over a month. The install was done by Motorsport Dynamics in Sacramento, one of the better tuner shops in the Sactramento area.

Even though I need to take it easy for 300 or so miles for break-in, when I drove the car home last night immediately it felt quite different. The first thing is that the clutch effort is lighter than stock and the engagement point is right near the floor. In contrast the stock clutch engages nearly at the top of the pedal travel. I prefer the engagement point of the JWT but it takes a just bit of getting used to after having my left foot programmed for the stock clutch setup for 2 1/2 years. No stalling, but I found it useful to move my seating position forward one notch for now to make smooth engagements.

The other immediately noticeable difference is the throttle response is super-quick. Blipping the throttle to rev-match is much easier but requires a lighter touch. Shifting is much smoother and the revs come up much faster. It's like the whole drivetrain went on a crash diet.

Several people with this setup have posted about the dreaded "cement-mixer" sound at idle with the clutch dis-engaged. On my car this sound is barely audible...certainly no louder than the stock setup anyway.

Overall, this mod is quite easy to appreciate and has improved the car more noticeably than anything else so far.

Clutch effort being lighter than stock, like in it is easier to press the clutch down? Or is the pedal more stiff?

Also congrats, another happy JWT combo owner...

Man making it hard to decide between JWT combo or the RPS combo

I'm debating on installing the clutch/flywheel myself or take it to a shop. Mind if I ask how much was labor?

Peking: yes, the effort to press the clutch pedal down now with the JWT is less than what is required with the stock clutch.

BootieMAN and 03_Track_Z: The total installation cost was $400. The job was quoted as 4.8 hours of labor at $75/hr for $360. Four quarts of Redline gear oil + the hazardous waste fee was $40.

The cement-mixer sound is apparant and it can only be heard at below 2k rpms in any gear above 2nd. But who drives their car like that. So to me the sound is practically non-existent. If you shift from 1st to 2nd right away and allow the rpms to go below 2k like around 1k-1500 then floor it, you'll hear the noise but we all don't drive like that. Overall I like it, it holds the power just fine.
