try putting a higher octane fuel in (premium) if the sound your hearing is detonation this should take care of it. even adding a few gallons of premium to the regular unleaded might do the trick!

I've already agreed with your assessment that it's piston slap.

Normal for an 03 and 04.

When I first took mine in the dealer acted like they couldnt hear it. I thought it was misfiring at first, but the ecu showed a clean bill of health.
It is just our crappy tranny that sounds like a bunch of rattling junk

Great now I don't have to ask Royal Nissan about it so they can act like they don't hear it like the first time I went.

They didn't hear the axle ticking or the clunking noise it made when I put it in first gear or the throw out bearing noise it made with the clutch out.

Second time I brought it to get my hub bearing replaced, I asked them about the axle ticking and he said it may be the brakes. I will attempt again by bringing my car to them soon to get the axles replaced. Bringing the damn TSB print out with me!

Oh yeah, did you hear how Royal screwed Robert? That SUCKS big time!

Unfortunately yes. I had dealings with Royal back in 1984 with my 280Z. I swore then I would never do business with them ever again. Take your Z to AllStar or LeBlanc.

Hey, you gonna try and make the AutoX tomorrow?

I have had this exact same problem since my car was 20 miles new. It is very easy to hear while running at idle in a small garage. The sound bounces off the walls.

I've been thinking it is part of the lousy transmission because the Z makes a similar combination of noises when you shut the car off. If you've ever listened after turning the key off, it stutters to a halt and sounds like trash.

who knows....

my 03' does the exact same thing, it stumbles at idle every now and then, with an accompanied clunk. Mine does it with the clutch in or out, but its more noticalbe with it out so you don't have throw out bearing/tranny noise.

My car also has a tick to it when i'm parked in a garage or next to a wall that i thought was a valvetrain issue, but I can't hear it when its parked in the open and i listen closely to the engine. I guess its just the injector noise bouncing of the walls?
