Default Oil pressure after cooler install

I just installed an oil cooler setup on my NA Z. I used a Mocal SP1F, an Earls oil cooler, 1/2" hydraulic lines w/ 10 -an fittings. I also changed the oil and filter while I was down there and used a Fram Extra guard filter. For what ever reason I have a lot more oil pressure than I did before.

It takes a while to warm up because I went with the SP1F and not the SP1FT but I still am getting 10-20 more PSI than before the mod. I've never heard of an oil cooler raising oil pressure, it usually drops a little.

It this normal for the Mocal or have I screwed up?

Thanx
Bryan

mine will stay higher than normal after fresh oil for the first 100-500 miles

But besides the oil staying cooler and thicker with the cooler

Do you have photos of the cooler installed? Much appreciated.

perhaps the oil pressure sensor is before the cooler, showing higher pre-cooler pressures due to the restriction.

Yes I was talking about the stock oil pressure gauge.

The stock gauge sending unit is in the main galley "AFTER" the filter and cooler.

I put my oil cooler on a couple of weeks ago, and once the oil is up to temp my oil pressure is a few PSI higher than before, it should be higher. The oil has a longer path to be pumped through. Since the oil pump is a positive displacement pump, the flow rate doesn't change, thus for the same viscocity of fluid traveling at a given flowrate, pressure will go up as you increase length. (applies to a Newtonan fluid only, but general works for all fluids).

Thanks,
I just picked up a Greddy oil pan. When I crawl back under there to install it, I'll snap some pics. I spent enough time under there over the last week to want a break from it. Time to drive her now.

The oil flows from pump to cooler then to filter Oem. The water temp rises much quicker than oil temp, the factory cooler aids oil warm up.
The aftermarket coolers are after the oem ones in the flow chain.

The oil pasages were all at least .560" in the block and all other areas of the main oil passage system. The few narrow ones are now .625" min. !!

I would run at min. a 5/8" line on my cooler if not 3/4".

I would bypass or cover aftermarket cooler unless you run a t-stat( in cool weather), oil temp gauge would also be very informative.

Very nice set up, looks great...
How about a little show and tell if you don`t mind. Any negatives? like air pockets that would delay the oil preasure. What temp. is your oil running now? and final question, what brand of oil filter you got there?
Thanks, I`m planing on doing the same thing including the oil pan...

Thanks,
Here ya go
front shot of oil cooler, power steering cooler (old unused tranny cooler from Lightning) and Escort SR1.

this is where I go a different route, I run the lines to the front so I don't make a mess every time i change the oil

you can see the spacers on the lower alternator bracket, what you cant see is where I hacked on it to be able to flip it and move it up a hole. Also installed a tee fitting for my oil temp sensor, cause I'm cheap like that.

Kinda off-topic, but get rid of that Fram filter. Yikes!
