Default Question about installing 3.5 fd gear package on my 5AT

I've read alot of helpful information on here about gear packages, swapping pumpkins, etc. My question is if i buy the 3.5 fd gear package or the entire pumpkin off a 6mt, will it work with my stock vlsd that comes with the 5AT? Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Just find a whole pumpkin...WAAAAY easier in install, and if you look for someone locally it might even be free. And if you switch pumpkins make sure you find someone that had limited slip to start with...its inside the pumpkin. So its an even trade. If you just buy the gear then Im not sure about the diff.. I do know the the 3.3 gear is thicker than the 3.5 so it might be slightly different or it might just need different shims, cant really tell you there. Trust me, just go with the whole pumpkin!!

no.. you need a NEW VLSD out of a 6MT...

If you can not source used ones, it is cheaper to purchase a brand new complete pumpkin with 3.5FD and VLSD...

Labor will be about a 10th of the cost...

$1255 plus shipping... fully assembled ready to swap...

You will be much better swaping the whole pumpkin. I did and was happy i did. If you can't afford a new one, trade or find a used one in a junk yard.
But, be prepared to lose a little top and and gas mileage. I lost about 4 MPG. Which is quite alot.
Cost me 60.00 to ship mine out and 75.00 to have it swapped.
The price will be astronomical if you do it part by part.

Seriously man, just find an FI guy who wants to swap and it would be free assuming you do the install yourself. I did mine and it only took about 2 1/2 hours to swap them both out. It was a win win for both of us. Both of our cars were faster.

Got my pumpkin swapped last week as well. I am F/I (Vortech) and love it. I have a lot better acceleration at all speeds. My gas mileage is only down about 2-3 MPG. I would recommend, as other already have, searching the classifieds for someone wanting to buy a 5AT with VLSD. PM them requesting a swap. Thats what I did and I ended up paying shipping ($80) and installation ($150). Its much cheaper to swap with someone if you can find them. As also said, make sure you swap with someone who has the VLSD if you also have the VLSD. The pumpkin is the same for the G and the Z. I now have a 6MT G pumpkin in my 5AT Z.

If you are impatient, try going to www.car-part.com and search for a carrier. If you buy one off there, expect to pay around $500-700 for one.
