Default normal oil temps during rush hour?

ever since I got my oil temp gauge for my NA Z, I've noticed that the oil temp can easily get up to 215-220 degrees during rush hour - maybe 30 min of stop and go

I'll turn on the heater and that helps, but not a lot until the car gets moving.

Just wondering if 215-220 is a perfectly normal oil temp for rush hour or not?

BTW I have the APS oil pan

also after awhile in rush hour my AC will just stop working and only blow hot air if you were to try to turn it on

Ideal oil temperature is about 85 C or 185 F. Oil temperature will fluctuate and I would not be concerned unless you are running around or over 110 C or 230 F.

BTW the oil pan doesn't help oil temperatures, it just means the oil takes longer to reach the high temps, and longer for it to cool down. Yet, you will still reach the same temps.

AC - try recharging the system?

Turn on the AC to cool your oil. Turning on the AC will turn on the radiator fans which will dropped coolant temps which will help lower oil temps. I've verified this behavior with my defi setup (oil and water temp. sensors).

No sure about your AC symptoms.

yeah I just turn on the heater and will notice the oil temp go down way faster than if I didn't turn it on.

Yeah the APS oil pan isn't a magic solution - it's cooling fins are only useful if the car is moving and yeah more oil just means slower to change temp

If your really worried, install a aftermarket oil cooler and you'll be fine. Also your A/C problem could be a leak in the system. Usually if you have a leak the pressurized freon will leak out. I would suggest a recharge and inspection of your A/C system. Good luck!
